    Rooster breed advice pls

I will be buying chicks & raising them. I have previously worked with the hens & a Brahma rooster to be quite friendly, & has culled some mean roosters from other breeds- so I’m trying to avoid the aggressive breeds, but get the beauty. A friend suggested maybe, black copper maran?

    Rooster breed advice pls

With an actual gamefowl/ jungle fowl rooster won’t my next generation of birds be flighty & more aggressive? Also, if I ever try to grow my flock, I don’t believe will be able to have a 2nd rooster ever.

    Rooster breed advice pls

My husband would love to take it tailgating & show it off to the guys, but I told him that would be way to much to expect & that would stress the bird out. So just not human aggressive.

Using geese to protect your flock

I had a guard goose with my chickens previously. She did not seem to notice hawks, however the hawks never attacked, so perhaps she was good deterrent. On multiple occasions I saw her attack neighbor dogs that attacked my chickens. Idk if it was her breed (Toulousa), but she definitely fought...

How can i tie up my chicken?

You can use a horse trick called hobbling (only for short term until you get a cage available). You tie both legs together with about 3 inches of gap (width set so they can stand & take tiny steps). However since he has wings, you May need to clip his flight feathers (at least some). The short...

Suggestions for chicken breeds for kids?

I had flock of several even with a rooster, when we had a 4 year old at home. I handled with the birds a lot & they came running if they thought you were bringing scraps. The brahmas were extremely calm (the rooster I kept was a Brahma because I was much nicer than the others). However, it is up...

    Do you use supplemental lighting?

Previously raised chickens in a cold climate- all year I had a light on a timer to only add a couple hours & help the goose have light to protect the free range birds if I was late locking the coop up. Then in the winter I changed it to a heat light when we were well below zero. I had great egg...

    Ducks and chickens together?

When I had ducks & chickens before, I gave my drake 2 hens. Also, I gave them a kiddy pool to go play in, so although they were raised with the chickens & spend much time together, the ducks spend more time in the water where the chickens wouldn’t go. So either 2 hens or water, meant he never...

    Rooster breed advice pls

I raised chickens with a guard goose some 10-12 years ago & I’m planning to start raising chickens again in a year or so. Since I will again utilize a guard goose, I do not need a protective rooster, so I can hopefully get a friendly dual purpose breed. For my 6-8 hens I plan to have: Rhode...
