    Red Swollen Feet

I have a hen with mildly swollen feet. From the "ankles" down they're a little swollen and pinkish-red in color. She's walking a little funny too - looks like she can't bend all her toes. HELP! Thanks, Josh

Not a single egg since September.

I got rid of my two roo's back in September and have not since received an egg from any of my 14 ladies. I feed them layer crumbles from Rural King...should I add some oyster shell? They have a heat lamp on 24 hours a day. Oh, and my araucanas have NEVER produced an egg - they're about 10 months...

    Night Light in Coop

So someone else uses a night light... Someone told me that they won't sleep with a light...I had to ignore that because I've seen my hens sleep with it on before. I just wasn't sure if the light would affect my new roo's. The light shines on the floor, not in the rafters. And that's where my...

    Night Light in Coop

    Younger Chickens Won't Go Outside

In my coop I have a ramp that leads up to a window to go down another ramp outside. My three older chickens use it to go outside. However, I have 18 younger chickens (about 16 weeks old) that haven't used it yet. They've been in the coop with the older ladies for about three weeks. Do I need to...

    Night Light in Coop

I keep a light on in my coop at night. It's a 60watt buld - not too bright for an old coop. It hangs about 4 1/2 - 5 feet off the ground. I think my hens don't mind, but i have two 15 week old roo's...think they're okay with it? Maybe i'm just overly concerned. I like the idea of my chickens...

The white, see-through spot in the center of the picture?

    "Let's Get It On!"

That's amazing! I don't have a problem eating fertile eggs. I just don't want to see a speck, or more, when I crack them open. As long as I get them daily and don't take them from a hen sitting...I'll remember that. You say it's a white speck on the yolk? I thought it would be red. Thanks!

    "Let's Get It On!"

So I saw my 15 week old roo's doing the nasty with a couple ladies. I really want to keep my boys with my girls - mainly for protection. I want to be able to eat the eggs as well. What's the best way to tell if they're fertilized? I don't want to be cracking open eggs and finding them to be...

    Rooster Hired as Security Bouncer

I hear that a rooster will protect his ladies. Is this true? If so, to what extent? My chickens are pretty well secure, but if a opossum or raccoon did get in...is it just a 50/50 chance? Oh, I have 2 roosters and 18 pretty ladies. Thanks.... -Mista J.

    Roo's eating Layer Crumbles?

My main chicken feed has gone from Chick Starter to Layer Crumbles. Is it okay for my boys to eat this as well? They don't seem to mind - as they are chickens. I just want to make sure they're getting the right nutrients. -Mista J.

Chicks on or off the Starter?

    Thank you very much!

Chicks on or off the Starter?

I have 17 13 week-old chickens. What week am/was I suppose to take them off Starter? Is it safe to give them Layer after the Starter? Everywhere I look seems to say something different. Thanks! Mista J.
