Crossbreeding Bantams with Full-Size Chickens – Has Anyone Tried This?

Hi everyone, I'm curious if anyone here has experience with crossbreeding small bantams like Sebrights or Seramas with large full-size chickens. I'm working on a long-term project to develop a compact, productive, and ornamental landrace flock suited for a small permaculture homestead. One of...

New project: mixing local breeds from around the world

Well let's see how they turn out, but I'm willing to share eggs if anyone would be interested in them. Also have to come up with some type of plan for breeding. 3 roosters and 1 hen isn't actually a lot of genetic diversity....still it's going to be a fun challenge 🤔

New project: mixing local breeds from around the world

Looking at the feral population and after doing some research I think that the Jaerhon is somehow involved. The chickens at the farm where definitely European landrace type in terms of posture and behavior (sleeping and flying up in too the trees) mutch like the Frisian Gull and Chaamse hoen...

New project: mixing local breeds from around the world

So 5 of the 6 hatched last night. One of the all "black" ones has little feathering on his feet. Call me crazy but they kind of remind me of several Cuckoo/barred breeds I have hatched in the past, a specially with the white head spots. One died after it pushed it self out of the egg. No...

New project: mixing local breeds from around the world

Well within the EU people are allowed to take groceries over the borders. Norway is technically not a EU member but still its Europe. The eggs from Marrakech I just gave to a friend who was driving to the Netherlands with some new furniture for his family. He was checked at the border but nobody...

New project: mixing local breeds from around the world

So past March I was in Marrakech and started to look around town at the local chickens and it occurred to me that wherever I have been around the world there always is some local variety of chickens, either landrace/feral or specifically selected for its local conditions. So I started to wonder...
