Thanks this was very helpful, I think you were right I think it was yeast and not mold I have been seeing. Ducks are loving it and I think their poop smells a lot less too not sure if that's supposed to be a side effect or not but it's a good one :)
Ah okay I was wanting to use like a 4gal bucket with cover to do the ff in and then just add to it as it gets low but I was still worried about the whole mold thing if that'd be an issue.
Still no eggies from her. I think you might be right about that not being mold and instead yeast, it smelled pretty nasty and was whiteish. Lydia do you start your new batch with your old batch or do you have a different bucket to start the new one? Also how long does one batch last you cause I...
Okay so the ff has been going well, i still have to mix a little dry pellets in the food before feeding cause they seem to like it not so mushy. I'm having a problem though with mold, sometimes it does but sometimes it wont. I'm using ACV but it doesn't always seem to help with the mold, any...
Just an update the ff is becoming a hit! They are starting to love it, I still have to put a little dry food in with it to make it not so soupy as they like to add more water themselves haha. They are getting displeased if I mess up and they have to miss a day of their ff. And I have ground...
It warmed up last day or so! We hit 52 yesterday I couldn't believe it, and today around 30 with windchill but I had just enough energy yesterday after working all night to shovel out the 3' of snow all around the ducks house and pen and put some hay down for em. Took a trail of peas to get them...
We had a break through today! Clint and Crackers ate all their food today :) it made me soooo happy! I gave em a bit more tonight and even put some in my hand and Clint mowed right down on it, I think i'm going to gradually cut back what I mix in for dry pellets and see how that goes but i'm...
Clint and Crackers appreciate the compliment Adalida! In the spring summer and fall they roam all they want, I tried so hard to keep them outside this year in the winter but we got some days/nights of -35 with the windchill and they were moved into the shop which is all insulated and they have...
Someone earlier on in this thread said that it helps in the fermentation process and helped keep mold away? If you have more information I'd love to hear, I found a few threads of people using it but like I said more information is always welcome! Knowledge is power :)
The battle goes on. So Clint and Crackers have been trying their new food and I've got it to a mix of roughly 2cups layer pellet to 3cups water and roughly half of a third of a cup of ACV. When I feed them in the morning I give them just about a cup of the ff mixed with a cup of their layer...
Well going on two days now. I fed the litter buggers yesterday and since they're living in the shop I have been leaving them with feed and water overnight. I got back late from work yesterday morning and much to my surprise they had eaten some of it, very little but some! I didn't want to leave...
Haha yeah they love peas so I tried mixing in some to the flash tonight, still not fans lol. They found it more fun to just run at me and nibble on my pants legs n boots like hey what's this crap?! I'm sticking to it, a lot will likely go to waste at first but I think if they get hungry enough...
I did put the grit in a separate dish and they are doing well with it when they please. I tried the ff this morning and I think I actually saw them pouting :( they haven't touched it, I left it down for them in hopes they might try it. I picked up a little n Clint sorta tasted it n then shook...
