    Lethargic Chicken

Hi, I am new to raising chickens and started my flock last August. We have 4 hens in a suburban setting. Starting yesterday one of my Wyandottes has started sleeping in the nesting box (she's not on an egg nor have we had an issue with her sleeping in the box before)...and then today she is...

    calling any one from missouri

So on my question about sexing-my Sussex started trying to crow early this morning...I say "try" because it sounded like a stepped on cat with a gag in it's mouth-but I heard it at three and didn't think anything of it...but when I went in this morning he hopped up to greet me and arched his...

I got all my chicks from Cackle so I could check with them, since they are a hatchery maybe they will take them.

Hello fellow Missourians :) I am a chicken newbie in Springfield. I have a White Wyandotte, 3 Columbian Wyandottes, and 2 Speckled Sussex. I am a complete newb and have been reading all I can off of this site :) I do have a quick question-My chickies are 8 weeks old, is it too soon to be able...

Modern design, but what's the point!

No suggestions- just admiring your handiwork. Maybe you could just use the top section for storage and let them sleep under the house?

Post pics of stock from Cackle Hatchery

I have had my Cackle chickies for 1 week today. I have 3 Columbian Wyandottes, 1 White Wyandotte, and 2 Speckled Sussex. I will post pics as they get bigger. I am new to chickens and Cackle made this a very easy process. I live about an hour away so I just drove to pick up my chicks since my...

post your chicken coop pictures here!

I plan on using pallets too-not sure I could just "throw something together" though...I'm not that handy. Will have to have my hubby take a look at this coop because maybe between the two of us we could put something simple like this together ;)

post your chicken coop pictures here!

Started leveling the ground to start on our coop! Chickies are 1 week old so we have a few weeks to work. Was thinking of doing 3x4x4 is that big enough for 6 chickens? I ordered 4 from the hatchery, but since they couldn't guarantee that my Columbian Wyandotte was a pullet they threw in 3 of...

    Petting

I've only let my oldest touch them, and the rule is she can use one finger while I'm holding the chick.

Yes my kids adore them! My three yr old asks all day if she can go see the chicks and my 16mo old does a dance and sings "chika-chika-chika" whenever she sees them. I don't let them see them all the time just because neither of my girls understand the word "quiet" lol

This is our first batch of chicks. I ordered 4 pullets but since they weren't sure whether the Columbian Wyandotte was a pullet they gave me three...so I have 3 Columbian Wyandottes, 1 White Wyandotte, and 2 Speckled Sussex.

So my husband and I spent about an hour snuggling various members of our flock last night and at first they didn't seem to care for it, but by the end of just one hour they didn't seem to mind it as much. So I guess we'll just work on it nightly after the kids go to bed-not sure my 3 yr old and...
