The best wildlife-friendly fencing, by far, that I have come across is hawthorn hedgerows. I live in the UK and all throughout the countryside, you will see hedgerows that start off as hawthorn-only, but gradually, as years go by and birds visit them, other species appear, such as hazel, oak...
You would get the same as from crossing black to buff except that your offspring will be split for lavender. Google black/buff cross. They're quite interesting-looking birds.
Hi all,
I recently go two lgd pups at the ages of 5 and 9 months. The 9 month old dog had been around poultry his entire life and was fine with them. The younger one had only been around them for a few weeks before coming to me. I built an enclosure for them, where they would be able to see...
I have gotten upset so many times at my other half. He never wants to do anything, he doesn't want to try and he keeps finding 'better' things to do. Oh and he tries to dissuade me from doing things too, by saying "it'll never work", "that won't work", "you may as well pay someone to do it"...
Is that coop just for raising growers or will they also be in there when fully grown? If just for growers, they'll be fine. Have you considered a poop tray? That way they won't have far to fall, if they get knocked off.
S/he grew it rather young, but then it just seem to stop growing. I keep checking for saddle feathers, but these frizzled feathers are impossible lol. I can't even see any on the LF frizzled cochin, who's definitely a boy.
I'll check with the frizzle folk. Thanks for the help.
There are some really interesting jobs out there... trout hatchery! wow! Such a variety!
I'm on the boring end of the scale... I work for a software development company. My other half is self employed, so I also do his paperwork after my 9-5 has finished. As he's not yet earning (anything!), I...
12 weeks old. I thought male, but there hasn't been any further development. Hopefully, others who have has this breed (bantam cochin, I think you call it) can just confirm it is a male.
The colours aren't true in the photo. The comb is very pale and the wattles aren't as big as this photo...
I have rung countless customs agents and the only one that actually got back to me said that it would be easier to import live birds than eggs. I thought eggs would be cheaper and easier too, but what do I know? I also thought it would be a doddle to import as the only thing that is needed is a...
Watching on enviously as you hatch eggs. I was hoping to have some of Renee's eggs incubating over here by now, but it's looking like importing chickens might be a better way. Still hoping we can get something sorted before the end of the season; it's driving me mad only being able to look at...
It could be she needs a bit more calcium? If the shell is thinner, it doesn't take much to for a beak to break it, even accidentally. I've had that issue with just one hen. Everyone else's eggs were fine, but if someone got in the nestbox after her, there'd be yolk everywhere. I swapped to...
