I am using a chickcozy incubator. But I can understand the hotter and cooler spots in the incubator. Witho our weather we've been having lately (in SC) trying to keep the temp where it needs to be and the humidity has been somewhat problematic.
I have been raising domesticated mallard ducks for almost 4 years now. This year some of my girls have continued to lay even through the cold days (finally slowed down but haven't stopped completely yet). I incubate the eggs because they feel the need to share nests and when a few ducks hatch...
Thank you. I was quite concerned. I've hatched off over 60 babies since March and this is a first, so was worried. I'll definitely keep an eye on it. Should I keep it separated until it is fully absorbed? It has 3 hatch mates that it is separated from.
I have a duckling that hatched late last night (shortly after midnight this morning actually). I left it in the incubator to dry. This morning he's dry, but he has something attached to him on the outside. I've never seen it before and I have no idea what it is or what to do about it. Please...
Thank you for the explanation on exploding eggs. I did not know that. 2 generations on the ducks. We sell the ducklings at 2 days old to our local feed store.

In this picture there is a hen in the back near the chicken door with a red head and a grey backside. Is this a particular type of chicken or just a mix breed? I have like 3 of them like this. Thanks.
I thought about that, but I was concerned if I ran her off her nest to candle the eggs, if they were still viable, would she return to the nest to finish setting?
I have a pair of mallards that I hatched in an incubator last year. They hatched around July 7. Male and Female. She hatched off 9 of the 18 eggs she laid in mid April this year. 7 survived and are doing well in the pen with the male and female. She made another nest in the same spot, laid 11...
I do have other ducks. I have mallards but they are in a separate enclosure than the Pekin...the Pekin (we call her Ms. Duck Duck) doesn't really like other fowl in her enclosure...she prefers to look at them through the wire.
