    Surviving Minnesota!

Hey all... Been a long time since I popped in. Just curious if you all have any recommendations in central/Western MN for Orpington breeders? I'd rather not go hatchery this time around, and would love to stay local. 😊

    Poults covered in poo

I haven't heard any gobbling yet. I'm really hoping one or both are toms.

    Poults covered in poo

Here's one of my little poop monsters. You can see his/her wing feathers have it all in them. 🤮

    Poults covered in poo

It has been hot here too, over 100 for the past week.

    Poults covered in poo

Their poop seems to be normal. I watch them go to the bathroom, and walk through it right after. I think that's the main problem. Their enclosure couldn't be any cleaner.

    Poults covered in poo

I've been putting them out in a covered run for the day. They still manage to get covered in gross.

    They have a 5'L x 5'W x 5'H enclosure with pine shavings.

    Poults covered in poo

I'm new to turkeys, and have two sweet cuddly little 5 week old poults. One royal palm and one black spanish. They have a big clean brooder with pine shavings that I clean out every other day- but for some reason they always have poop all over their feet and feathers. Are turkeys just naturally...

    Broken leg at the joint

Well Peg is almost fully healed. She has a small limp. She's officially back with the flock after a week of reintegration. Yay! 😊

    Breed mystery

Funny, I just posted about one of them earlier today. Here is a couple updated pictures. 2 are for sure cockerels, the one all white with feathered feet (shown in all 3 pictures) we are still wondering about.

Hen or roo, this one has me stumped.

About a week ago or so. What's got me wondering is the rounded, straight tail feathers. Also, when it fluffs up, it's missing the rooster neck feathers (the ones they get when sparring or shaking off).

    Yes, and sparring too.

Hen or roo, this one has me stumped.

I have 4 chicks we hatched this year, and one has me completely stumped. We've been able to sex 3 of the 4 with the obvious telltale rooster/hen signs... But this one is tall and lanky like a roo, with pretty thick legs, developed a red comb and wattles really early... But is not sprouting...

    Broken leg at the joint

She did indeed. We call her "Peg", as in "Peg Leg" 😂

    Broken leg at the joint

We're making progress... Someone has decided to get out of the hammock on her own and is standing for short periods. The leg is shaky, but looks good.
