Four chicks hatched. A fifth was stuck in zip mode for 2 days. Shrink wrapped. I had to assist. It's currently still alive. We'll see if he/she makes it... 🤞🙏🤞🙏
Going to get a freeze this weekend. Tomatoes have 4 days to get their act together and decide if they are going to ripen in time...
Three chickens hatched this morning... None from the 2 eggs that were pipped but I thought were dead. 😂 Shows what I know... I had to leave really early today for work so didn't get to snap any pictures. Hope to have 7 fuzzy chicks when I get home tonight. 🤞
Yeah, I'm like 30 pages behind again... 🙄 This thread moves so fast...
We got our first light frost this morning. It was only in the low areas. I didn't cover my tomatoes so I hope they are OK. I have about a dozen really nice ones that are huge but still green. I left them on the vine hoping...
I had an old ceramic soup bowl I was using for water but she was emptying it really fast. I figured maybe she was tipping it so I put it inside a bigger, heavier ceramic planter. Still it was empty halfway through the day... So I bought one of those self-waterers that holds at least 6-8 cups of...
This stray bunny is driving me crazy. She refuses to use a litter box and keeps flipping her water bowl. Grrrrrr... She definitely needs an outdoor pen. Since we also have a buck too... I'm thinking about breeding them for meat. I've been toying with the idea of building an 8 ft x 8 ft hoop...
Yeah, it was like the pokeweed went on a rampage afterwards. It started popping up EVERYWHERE after my slash-and-burn assault. Thankfully it's super easy to pull up as a baby plant but there were literally hundreds of them for weeks on end that came up.
I'm really behind getting my stuff indoors that can't be left out for the winter. My lemon tree, pineapple plants, hibiscus, and mandevilla are all shivering... Supposed to rain all weekend so it looks like I'll be moving plants in the cold rain. 🙄
My hatch efforts are not going well... I set a dozen eggs in the incubator. Three were not fertilized. Four were quitters. Only 5 still going...
To be fair, my incubator did act wonky one night. Temp dropped to 96 degrees at one point. 😕 Not sure how long it stayed that low though...
I did this with glyphosate in the spring (applied Roundup to cut stalks). The pokeweed still returned/regrew later in the summer. It didn't get as tall and big though so you can tell that the Roundup definitely damaged the rhizomes but didn't eradicate it completely.
Tomorrow I will have completed 10 days of Amoxicillan with no improvement. In fact, when I sprayed his ear with peroxide, it massively foamed up. It hasn't done that since I first cleaned it out...
He is still eating, drinking, and eliminating waste but it's a real struggle for him to stand...
I remember getting a starter for Amish friendship bread about 30 years ago.... Maybe it's cause I don't live in Amish country anymore, but you never see or hear stuff like that these days. 🤔
No bad smell... I think he had some discharge back when his ear was full. I have been carefully cleaning it with an ophthalmic gel and put some neomycin drops in it a few times. Haven't noticed any discharge from the eye since then but I'll pay closer attention over the next few days.
I'll...
Well, I said I wasn't going to do it...
But given how few eggs I'm getting and the high number of flock loss this year, I've broken down and put a dozen eggs in the incubator.
If I get any hens :fl, they'll be laying by spring.
I can't believe I'm doing this...
Ahh, I forgot to look in his mouth. I'll have to do that tomorrow.
Also, I've only been giving him the Amoxicillan once a day... 👉👈👀
This is the left side of his head. It was the side with the ear infection. Notice how white his eyelid and ear are?
By contrast, this is the right side of...
