I went out last night so it was pretty dark. My husband held her while I shined a flashlight on the wider end of each egg. Some of the eggs I was able to "see through" but didn't see anything and a couple of the others the shells were definitely too dark/thick to see anything. I have pink, white...
I have a broody hen who hatched chicks for us ever year. In the past I buy fertilizer eggs for her. This year we have a roo so we are hoping to hatch our own. She is currently sitting on 5 eggs and has been for about a week. I’m not sure how to tell if they are fertilized. Last night I tried to...
I currently have a mama in a separate coop that just had three babies a couple days ago. I now have two more broodies......it's contagious! I trying to figure out if I can add my broodies with the new mama. The coop the new mama is in has an upstairs coop and nest box. The downstairs has an...
I recently had two silkies die and now I have another chicken that can't seem to move. She is eating and drinking but can't keep Jeramy up right. When I pick her up she holds one foot up to her chest with the other outstretched. I took her to the vets about 4 days ago and he could not see any...
That's another thing I am confused about. I have done so much research between what type of material to use in the run and how to treat lice/worms. I feel like I'm spinning around in circles. I ended up treating all chickens with wazine in the water about 10 days ago. Not sure if I should do...
I'm in a predicament with my run. It is a 9x12 covered run. Up until now it has been dirt except over winter I did DL. It is way too hot here in the summer for DL as it produces too much extra heat. I've lost several chickens lately and my vet thinks it might be due to pathogens they are picking...
I have a broody that hatched three silkies. I decided to move them to a separate coop as I was afraid some of my bigger hens would step on the littles as my room is a little limited. They are just over three weeks old and mama is getting very antsy. Every time I open the coop door she tries to...
Well I ended up leaving her for now. I tried moving her in a dog crate and she was not happy at all. Figured it was best to keep her calm at this time. Managed to put up a barrier to the nesting box so that the other hens can't hop in with her. Day 20 today. Fingers crossed!
I have a broody with three foster eggs. She is on day 19. I have a smallish coop with two nesting boxes attached to a large enclosed run. My nesting boxes are raised off the coop floor about a foot or two. So far my other three laying girls insist on laying their eggs in with her. It hasn't...
