They are supposed to have blue legs down to toes correct? Are they born this color or do their legs change to this color as they get older? I have one blue English Orpington chick that is about 5 days old. She has dark blue legs except one full toe and tips of a couple others. I don't remember...
We don't have sod, we live in the "sandhills" in North Carolina, should I give them a dish of sand from outside? They're going to be in a covered run with cement floor that I'll be putting contractors sand in.
I'm probably just over reacting but I'm pretty sure my husband will cry if one of the chicks dies, he was a city kid lol. I pulled apart and inspected it, it wasn't mucousy and had no blood. There is one we call "Mrs. Poopy ********" but it isn't caked, she just has a lot of fluff back there.
So I have 8 almost week old chicks to 3 week old chicks. They are being raised in a diy brooder in my house, all came from the same local hatchery and are on medicated chick starter. I'm cleaning their brooder (large plastic tub) every other day and we have no other poultry. Today while cleaning...
My girls were always exceptional diggers, their waterer was elevated but it didn't make a difference lol. I'm excited about the water nipples though, then they can have a closed unit waterer
That is awesome! Chickens and water just seem to always be a big dirty mess. The last chickens I had I scrubbed their waterer everyday and by the next day they had it full of mud again. I'm pretty excited about having a closed container with nipples keeping their water fresh and clean
Has anyone ever used the water nipples in a bucket to water their birds? I haven't ever seen them before but they look like a brilliant way to keep their water clean. My worry is the birds won't know how to get the water, do you have to train them to use them? And if so how do I go about setting...
Such as
Cuckoo roo can pass on barring to both sexes or it can pass on 1 barring gene and 1 self black (not sure what birds call it)
Cuckoo hen only passes on barring to males
Crele is partridge with barring gene. I just don't know what would be the best route to take if I can't just buy...
I do get it, it's the same as agouti coat pattern in rabbits. Maybe I have misunderstood something you have said. I'm not expecting crele out of first generation breeding, I would assume they would be a split
So according to the APA the only accepted varieties of Orpington are Black, Blue, Buff and White. I have seen on this site people saying they show "English" orps in shows with American orps. Is it possible to exhibit off colored orps? I'm brand new to North Carolina and would love to meet like...
I found this on feathersite about wyandotte, am I right to assume it would work the same for Orpington? I wish I had room to just get all of them lol. The small amount of poultry I will have (around 10) is my reward for putting up with the "army life" my husband got us into.
"Golden Creles can...
So how do they get the barring gene on patrdige to make crele? I'm pretty interested because the one person within driving distance of me doesn't know if they will be hatching more crele chicks. Either way I'm going to buy partridge since it's one of my favorite colors.
