Early this spring my Blue Orpington pullet was mauled by her cockerel I removed her, washed her and of course immediately sprayed her injuries with Blu-Kote. Her injuries have healed and you can't tell she was taken down to the bone and tendon by his sharp toenails!!! Here lies the problem - 4-H...
Ok, this first red hen was also one we were given by the "breeder". She was supposed to be some sort of Bantam, but as you can see her next to my Frizzles, she is much larger. VERY VERY sweet disposition. Any ideas as to what we can call her - breed-wise?!
She has a single comb, no feathering...
A "breeder" gave me these chickens in exchange for a couple dozen eggs. She assured me they were all pullets, bantams and purebred. I lost my cell with her contact # so I can't get back to her to ask what I got. They don't seem to be pullets either
Of course out of the 4 pullets, 3 are really...

My 7 & 10 year old are NUTS about their chickens. My 7 yr old is OBSESSED! He asked for a plush/stuff chicken for Christmas. I can't find one anywhere. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hens are laying great, slowing down a bit, but we gather the eggs daily. No one has been on meds, all eating the same stuff (layer food & whatever they can get when they free range). Today I boiled some eggs. This was a large brown egg, no idea who or which breed chicken laid it. If I am not...
I want to give my girls some more freedom. Our 1+ acre yard is fenced in (dog/goat proof, but chickens could get over the fence). I don't want to do a permanent run, but wanted to buy some of the portable electric fencing so that I can move them about the yard, let areas rest and keep them out...
We have some Bob White Quail we obtained from a reputable breeder some time back (they used them for planting in the field to hunt). These are basically pets. About a month ago a lady advertised she was giving some BWQ away so I thought it would be nice to have some new blood.
When I saw them...
YEAH! 2 in one day!!! I can't wait. We have a total of 33 chickens. I think all but 3 are pullets, so it will be interesting to see how many eggs we get per day once we start rolling. Of course I have a handful of banties so their eggs will be smaller than thos of my other hens.
Hi there, just saw this thread. We are in Howard County, close to Carroll. Have 8 1/2 acres, 2 ponies, 2 horses (1 just bred), 1 foal, 4 pygmy goat mixes, 5 bob white quail, 5 quail which are white and no on can identify (mutants), 33 chickens, 1 gold fish, 2 Brittany's and an Irish Setter...
I bought my chickens the week before Easter (April 13th) from TSC. Ginny Weasley (my sons named her) is a Red Sex Link.
Yesterday she was in the nesting box and her vent was fluffing up and she was acting very odd. She was incredibly vocal too. I checked all day yesterday, sure she was going...
Doing a search, I found a chicken that I would love to have... the Tollbunt Tricolor Polish Chicken. Does anyone know if any of the hatcheries sell these or would those come from a breeder/fancier?
Thanks!
Our boys are 7 & 9 and wanted to try 4H. Having lost a bunch of critters in the past several years (old age, cancer), they didn't want anything that would have to go to slaughter so they decided on trying to raise layers!
I went a little nuts and bought a bunch of chicks of different breeds...
