It got to 72 degrees today, so I put my 3 1/2 month old chicks out in a temporary pen in the sunshine and they had a blast, it was fun watching them play.
Finally after about three months the girls are starting to lay again. Thankfully I was able to get eggs from another raiser and I haven't had to do that before.
I've had my RIR since they were chicks and handled them and I thought everything I should do to make them trust me, but they won't come near me they are 12 months now.
I don't know if you free range or not and it may not have anything to do with free ranging just the heat but some of my girls were laying outside under some bushes I kept taking the eggs and they are finally laying back in the coop.
I let my girls free range and they have experienced their first winter we've had 8" of snow on the ground for about a week and the temperature has been in the single digits all week also. I've cleaned some snow out of the run but some days they come out of the coop and some days they don't not...
