And by "good" I mean will not neglect them and only slaughter humanely; I don't mind if you eat them. That's probably what I was going to do with a few of them anyway . Would love for the silkies to go to a nice home with some pretty lady silkies, and will even throw in a buff or partridge...

Small Privacy Fenced Yard = Huge Chicken Run? :)

The "poultry netting" I was referring to was the product under that name at the hardware stores, which seems more accurately to be called 1" chicken wire. I'm thinking it would have the be heck of a determined hawk, to be diving within 8' of the side of the house...but I wonder if a few nice...

Small Privacy Fenced Yard = Huge Chicken Run? :)

I'm not sure about the predators in the area...we'll be in town, but it's a small rural town, so just a mile or so away it's forests and farmland. And I assume EVERYWHERE has raccoons? I am building a coop for them, and they'll probably be locked in at night, at least until I can suss out the...

Small Privacy Fenced Yard = Huge Chicken Run? :)

Ok, so the house I'm moving into has a teensy little backyard with a privacy fence. I estimate the measurements as about 25' x 8'. There's a huge side yard and a big front yard, so gardening and etc will happen there, and there's nothing else I need this space for, so... Is there any reason...

Advice Please! Might be moving into CITY LIMITS!

Thanks for the ideas, guys... I've looked up the zoning restrictions as far as I can, but while it looks like poultry is specifically forbidden in residential zoning areas in Chickamauga, I can't figure out if my future address is included in the area, since their map on the website is too...

Advice Please! Might be moving into CITY LIMITS!

Heeeeeeeeeelp!!! I started my very first flock this year: 7EE pullets, 7 Buff Orp pullets, 4 Packing Peanuts, and 6 assorted silkies. They should finally be laying age right around the beginning of May, BUT... I may have to move to a new house that is within the city limits of a small town...

Goat owners help with new kids please

I have four ND babies right now, two doelings and two soon-to-be-wethers. They're right between four and five weeks, and are being bottle fed cow's milk three times a day. They're growing like weeds and the bottlefeeding is awesome for their socialization, too. The breeder from whom they were...
