Peahen has decided to live here

A peahen showed up at my place. I am not aware of any near neighbors who keep peafowl, and I posted on a neighborhood social media page with no response. She has been here over a month. I don't want her to be lonely with just chickens here, so I purchased a male and female peachick to grow up...

Thanks. My hen did perk up a bit and even started trying to eat again. I think she was just too far along when I discovered she was ill. At least with the help of BYC, I knew how to give her every chance. I also feel more educated about how to be proactive with the rest of my hens.

Sick hen, emaciated, green droppings, full crop

I had a similar situation in a Russian Orloff hen a couple of years ago. She "recovered" and lived less than a year, then died suddenly. I went many years without ever seeing this happen.

I bathed her bum in warm water & treated with ivermectin drops on skin for mites, bc had previous rooster with mites. I isolated her in my new greenhouse. The next day I...

Hi- I am not new to chickens or this website. I have gleaned a lot of info just from reading others' problems and experience. Now I am having problems with a sick chicken of my own and trying to figure out how to start a thread. I have already taken the chicken to the vet, but I could still use...

    Hey there, newbie here

I have had chickens for about 15 years. I picked layers with colors and general appearance I liked, and I somehow ended up with mostly breeds that liked to go broody. Then I went through a "rare and unusual" breeds phase. These days I try to stay with breeds that are friendly, like Cochins. I...
