I have checked for mites, checked her vent, checked for eggbound. Nothing that I can see or feel., her comb is pale, otherwise she looks and feels healthy. She is eating and drinking.
My 3 yr old hen is acting very strange, standing in one spot for hour at a time, sitting in nesting box backwards and she feels cool to touch, any ideas would be helpful.
No but the muddy footprints inside the trap indicated that they were inside not out. I am going to get the hardware cloth to cover the bottom of the coop and run. How far out and up the side of the run should we go? Or do we have to cover the run with it?
Well, we still haven't caught anything in the traps. We have set small and large traps, the traps are sprung and the bait is gone and there are even tracks inside the cages, but nothing yet. We even tried a poison on night, still nothing. I will suggest the blanket trick to my husband but if...
I am having same problem, 6 chickens gone out of run. We have set traps everynight, big and little, switched bait etc. Traps going off but nothing there. Next step may be poison. I hate to do it , but I can't keep my chickens trapped.
Can an opposum fit through that small of a hole? Do they just tear off their heads? I didn't think they did that. And they most certainly can drag a chicken away.
Well, my run was predator proof or so I thought, we had it fenced in top, bottom and sides and 2 feet out in the ground, all except the back side of the coop which sat on the ground. We started with 1 hen missing, the next day 1 more, no where to be found not a feather so we though something...
Well, since that post I have lost a total of 6 chickens, 4 plymouth rock hens, 1 bantam hen and a bantam rooster. Seems their run was not predator proof afterall. We kept them in their run after we lost the first hen and the bantam hen on Tuesday, but my husband found one hen dragged under the...
Yes we have an actual coop that took my husband a year to complete. Their pen is attached to the coop and it is covered with wire on top also. we only had one outside wall that did not have the wire around the bottom and that was where it got in. The opening was only about 3 inches off the...
Well, it wasn't anything from the yard that got my chickens, I lost 2 more yesterday from inside their pen. Thought that if we kept them inside their run and coop the predator would go away, but little did we know that something had dug under the back wall and came up under the coop in to the...
Lost a plymouth rock hen Monday night at dusk and a little bantam Hen last night, my little Rosie was the only bantam hen I had. Raised them all from day old peeps. Really depressed but we are not going to let them out of their run for a while and cut off the predators food supply hoping that...
Did your chick ever come back? I am missing one of my 6 month old plymouth rocks. She has been missing since Sunday evening and I don't want to give up hope that she will come back on her own. No predators that I know of in the area. They only free range in evening when we are home otherwise...
We get an egg that is too big to put in carton. This happens at least 2 or 3 times a week. Don't know which hen is laying it as they all use same box. It makes you cringe when you see it.
I have a PlymouthRock that has been broody for several weeks. I keep taking her off nest when I find her there. Because I don't want any chicks I take eggs every day. But she still sits on empty nest. Will this stop on its own or do I need to worry about her?
She will stay out of Coop all...
Yes the crowing is non stop. I had 6 bantams and 5 of them were roosters. we gave 2 of the more agressive ones away. We have 9 hens. Since we gave the 2 away the other ones started to crow. never heard them before but they are now that the alpha males are gone. ONe is feathered footed and...
