When is it time to switch to layer feed?

People make this too complicated. I've fed my chickens for years the exact same way. My chickens seem to be healthy. Starter/grower up to around 16 weeks, then layer feed from there.

When is it time to switch to layer feed?

To the original poster, i offer this as a possible, standardized practice when switching feed types as your birds mature...... I always switch mine at the 16 week age or after the last bag of starter runs out. No harm, no foul. The birds are done growing by that time, and higher calcium levels...

    did i get a rooster?

It's a brown leghorn.....even the females will get HUGE combs. A picture of the others might be helpful, to gauge a better age, if you're not certain.

    Blue Orp Roo/RIR hen cross

Would anyone care to logically answer what the offspring between a full breed Blue Orpington Roo and a full breed RIR hen might look like???? Thanks.

    Roo or Hen

I see red lobes. Not a leggern. Don't lose all hope of them being pullets. Keep your ears open and listen for attempted crows. Also, they should be bigger in size, and their neck feathers should start coming in pointed. And start watching for pointed saddle feathers coming in on their back, in...

Help confirm the gender of this Easter Egger--New pics added!

3 rows on pea comb is hogwash. If that's true, I've got 3 roosters laying pretty green eggs.

Any guess on breeds for these Atwoods chicks?

Looks like a couple red sex links in there, so we know they're not all roosters. The yellow ones with black on wings might be a Delaware. Not sure. I'm not even going to guess on the others.

    Hen? Or Roo?

Personally, I think you only need one rooster. I also think that said rooster should be with the flock that you are establishing. I also think the rooster needs a roof over it's head, and a place to roost on, high above the floor. You should probably build a safe, temporary location for your big...

    Not what I was told.

Hey Speckledhen......I just posted earlier about a Delaware I have, wondering if it's a roo.....I believe your comment with pics on here, has solidified my suspicion. I've got me a Delaware Rooster that I need to get rid of. I can probably have a rooster, but with all due respect to my...

    Hen? Or Roo?

Those babies will need to be 12-14 weeks, which should put them about the same body size as your big ones, before you try and integrate them. They have to be able to defend themselves, and have a place to get away. They will be picked on, for sure.

    Hen? Or Roo?

The pic of the whiter one with the red blotches on shoulders is a red sex link rooster. (been there, done that)

    Delaware Rooster

Don't know if the pic uploaded. But here he is with my delaware pullet at about 6-7 weeks.
