my friend and i both had dog attacks within a month of eachother. all three hens are healed totally. we gave them all poultry emergency electrolytes & flushed wounds with grapefruit seed extract/water solution for several days...the wounds stayed clean & scabbed over nicely. we also gave them...
have you checked for lice/mites? chickens can get very lethargic if infested. we lost a cochin earlier this year (she looked/acted fine, other than being lethargic, since she was so fluffy it was hard to tell that she had lost weight & had mites). we suspected that is what ultimately killed her...
We reintroduced Big to her flock FULL TIME yesterday.
She's doing really well, she started putting weight on her foot & then walking....we're on week 2.5 of that...she still limps, but gets around very well. At first, we let the other girls into the yard & then let Big out of "sickbay" into the...
still hanging in there. her wound & bruising are healing well, but she still is not walking. she started scooting around a little, but that's all for now. i'm watching her weight right now, she seems to be dropping a lot. i know she's eating & drinking (still spiked with electrolytes & asprin)...
JJthink-
thank you for checking my post & offering your suggestion
I did give her asprin the day she was looking so bad, but once i started the electrolytes, i wasn't sure about mixing the two...i'll start adding asprin mix again today
fyi....make sure you are aware of asprin dosage...
thanks tamelroy!
i try, but this has been a tough couple years. i feel like, you name it, we've dealt with it....fowl pox, heat stroke, unknown cause of death, splay leg (twice), tumor, dog attacks, one close call with a hawk....
she really is a good chicken & i'm trying to do everything i can...
The wound healing after Flush-water/grapefruit seed extract
This is how her leg lies unless I pull it under her...we got a little movement on day 2, nothing really since. She can curl her toes around my arm as I hold her
LOTS of bruising!?!
DAY 5
Big wasn't doing so hot yest, I really wouldn't have been suprised to have woken up to her having passed. She was lathargic, napping most of the day and her comb & waddle had started to pale. She's been drinking, but I don't think eating. She won't put ANY weight on the leg now & will let...

set silkie & her nine chicks loose in garden this am....TONS of squash bugs....they are enjoying the nimphs & eggs, but won't touch the adults
the duckling likes the nimphs, not the adults, will eat the whole squash leaf encrusted in eggs
all my chickens love cockroaches, worms, snakes (the...
so.......it all started with a broodie silkie and almost ended with a trash can!
chicken had been broody for several weeks, so we decided to let her sit on her first clutch...problem, no rooster called a few friends & got an egg delivery lined up for following mon (set up incubator,in case she...
i don not wash...if i'm hard boiling & they have poo of them, i will rinse before cooking
washing will effect shelf life & if you don't refrigerate, i sometimes do & sometimes don't, it's not a good idea to wash & until ready to use
yeah, i emailed Bev & gave her the info & pics
this guy we got them from is a TOTAL SCAMMER, Bev said these girls are NO WAY from her line. oh well, i got them for pets anyway...i just hope they lay good colored eggs
the bumps don't look like avain pox, do they?
i started searching about illness (i have a sneezing/hiccuping cockerel) & i got freaked.
the marans seem healthy, but these bumps still concern me
one of the bumps bled last week....i assumed on of the cockerels had pecked it & caused it to bleed...
