Chick is still alive, alert, hungry, flapping around but unable to stand up. Full movement of legs. Kicking everything... just can't stand....?

Hen dying. What could it be??

Merry, I am in a similar quandary with my almost 4-month old and the same thing happened to a chick last year. She's interested in eating and I get water in with a dropper - she's alert but just lays down. When I pick her up her legs are active and she can push herself around but she cannot...

    Chick with limp legs

This morning - flapping her wings, eating a ton, trying to push herself out of the box which she does successfully... Any suggestions on what I can do for her besides warmth, food, and water??? Any specific food suggestions?? Thank you!

7 week old chick ran away. What to do?

I'm new too or I would hopefully have some wonderful words of wisdom. I just feel your pain and fear and I'm so sorry. It's so nice to let them out on a beautiful day but they are runners and fliers! (sigh) I agree with letting the other "cheeps" draw her back in and I would think that she...

    Chick with limp legs

Thank you for the replies.... I've been checking like crazy all day. She is eating when I put food in front of her (on a flap of the cardboard box), she eats it all. And using a dropper I can get water in too. When I hold her she kicks her legs, up and down, up and down but she can't stand...

I always notice that the chick becomes a little less feisty, active, or responsive two days before this strange "paralysis"...

Making organic homemade feed for the chicks

I will definitely add apple cider vinegar to their water - thank you! I'm trying to stay away from purchasing commercial feed since I think I can make them what they need and give them what they need. They are free range as well - with the exception of the yard that belongs to the dog because...

Making organic homemade feed for the chicks

Hello, Is anyone an organic chicken caretaker? I want to be and also want to know that my chicks are getting enough of the proper nutrients. I will not even pretend to know very much, save what I've learned from friends who are also backyard chicken-ers. I had read someone post something about...

    Why Organic?

I just wanted to recommend and mention the documentary "The Future of Food" - probably easily located on amazon or in your library. -It provides wonderful explanations of organic, GMO, pesticides, and patents for seeds. Thank you all for your wonderful comments. Peace, Tree

What does it take to be a succesful farmer?

Wow - I have learned so much from the replies to this original posting - thank you all for your thoughts, 2 cents, and then some! My thoughts don't come with as much personal history, but tons of passion. I am in Grad school for Holistic Health Education - I specialize in nutrition which has...
