I have a muscovy doing the same thing. Hatch day was yestreday and so far, nothing. Someone on here who has been raising ducks for like 20 years said that ducks don't really care about your calendar, they hatch in their own time. I would give it another couple of days as will I. We can sweat it...
Old hat to some on here but my three little boys and I are sitting glued to the incubator window watching button quail pop like popcorn!! **** they're cute!
That is all.... I had to tell someone!
I bought two dozen for the incubator. About a week before they showed up one of my hens started brooding. When the box arrived, I gave her 6. If a chicken could smile!!
I treated her last night and tucked her in. This morning when I went out, she had died. It was really bad, much worse than the pictures I looked at. Sometimes nature wins.....
I put 6 of them under a broody hen that has been trying to steal eggs for the last week. She was in heaven! The rest are at a friends house. She has a commercial incubator and tons of experience hatching which I don't. I really want to give my eggs the best chance possible and that is not in my...
I looked up prolapse, the pictures and the treatments. The pics show very small prolapses. This hen has the size of a softball. She's in the sick pen, in the barn by herself. She doesn't seem to be in pain although she hasn't moved since I put her in the nest box. I have honey and witch hazel so...
I went out to feed and put the animals up for the evening. One of my Buff Rock hens was in a nesting box. Two other hens were pecking at her rear under her tail. I chased them off and realized the hen was bleeding. I lifted her up enough so that I could see where the blood was coming from. It...
I just don't know if i'm cut out for hatching my own! I have no patience..... My muscovy is still sitting with her drake. This morning she pulled out almost all of her wing feathers and added them to the nest. Prior to this her nest was lined with down from her chest and underbelly. Please tell...
Now I just have to pray they hatch! Set 2 dozen Silver Pencilled Rock Eggs this morning. I have wanted some of these forever! Fingers will be crossed for the next 21 days.....
Update....
With hatch day looming tomorrow, EB (the drake) and Olivia apparently are setting up for the big event. She kicked 2 more eggs out this morning, then the two of them went for a bath. I picked the two up and put them in the bator. Anyway, my muscovies ar enot generally big on...
That's not it. She has been anything but lazy. She dug a hole for her nest, Muscovies have huge claws. She has taken all of the eggs out several times for a little housekeeping, then rolled them all back in. The drake helps her do this. I have been amazed at her dedication and the drake's as...
The roof vent isn't powered, it is just the flat pannet kind. As far as the steel floor goes.... We have prairie dogs and various other critters that dig into the chickem house. This finally stopped them. During the winter we have hard rubber mats, stall mats that we put down over the steel.
