What a great thread to start! There’s so much unspoken things, rarely do I comment on threads, but this one was a must!
This forum is pretty amazing and I’ve learned and gleamed a ton of information either how to or how not too.
People have given amazing advice, pictures, and just some days...
Awesome! I remember chatting a bit back with you about your progress. Almost a year in, I would suggest getting a part of any association that you may be inclined to have on your property. Getting a business license or "peddler" license - yeah it's a thing in bigger cities if you seek to go to...
To the OP, I don't necessarily agree that it’s comforting, I kinda went off topic with the hatchery question but it’s odd for me due to this hasn’t happened before. So I apologize If I made It confusing.
We carefully looked at different things.
Are there any drafts coming through?
Are they...
We have had this happen twice with our last two buys from a different hatchery we have never used in the past, so we’ve noticed that when it’s their time to move out to a bigger place they are freezing cold still and we live in Florida. No such thing. 😂. Of course it’s different in the chicken...
They still are loud, just not as loud as the toms. We’ve trimmed feathers and it’s really done nothing they still will jump/skip/hop, 😂 whatever you wanna call it, but yes it does prevent them from going too high. We’ve raised only broad breasted for harvesting purposes but we do have a midget...
Hello,
We have four LGD’s. We learned the good, bad, and deadly. You’ve received some incredible advice thus far but I truly believe most, including me, are sharing their own experiences and it could be different for you.
We have two that stay in our chicken and duck area. They have NEVER...
Thank you! Never heard of grubs but they do get mealworms as treats. I’ll definitely look it up.
We picked up and learned about fermenting feed, sprouts, and planted a full blown vegetable garden. When it doubt, go all out.
We process almost 200 every eight weeks. We use a plastic table, rinse when dirty, and a utility sink that we hook up with a water hose and a canopy to cover when the sun is shining. We do raise the table with two saw horses so it doesn’t strain any of our backs. Hope that helps.
Ah, I live in Florida...don't have a coop. Mine is an open air pen. One solid wall on the back with a piece on one side. Whole thing is covered and sand on the bottom.
Do you have a picture of your open air pen? Sounds cool. Just built a hoop coop. I also Live in Florida.
Thank you. Yeah they are amazing and interesting birds. Our first two, Gum Ball and Jelly Bean, are huuuge. We started off with two and we have eleven. We did the unthinkable and raising 9 in the brooder at the same time. 😳😂.
