This is an old post, but my Polish girl has been very dedicated to her eggs. I was shocked she even went broody. Hatch day is tomorrow, so we will see!
It’s just a strange looking thing all around. Was totally black, but now is getting gold patches and those yellow feathers behind his comb. Strangest thing ever.
This Roo is 13 wks old, already crowing and getting amorous, but his comb is so weird looking. He was from a mixed rare batch I hatched from eBay. Any ideas?
I hatched my first batch of chicks, it was so exciting and now I'm done. Out of 6 chicks I have 4 Roos. So I think I'm going to leave the hatching to others, as I do not need that many Roos. :) and the odds are not in my favor!
She had a small area in a coop, I blocked off the door, and had her food and water with her. This morning the eggs were cold, so I think she basically told me "I'm not sitting on them anymore".
we moved her to a secluded coop and that must of pissed her off. I moved eggs to incubator I already had set up, in case. I fear they were too cold to survive, but I guess we will see in the next few days. She's the only hen that goes broody, so I am just going to leave her in the smaller pen so...
It's going to be in the 80s this week with lows in the 60s. Our chicks are 4 weeks old. I'm putting them out, but am wondering if they should have a heat source. They have been without heat for 2 wks, in our house that maintains 70-72 temperature. They are thriving and are ready to move out of...
Thanks everyone! I think my job today is to clean the Roo's bachelor pad a let him free range today. Letting him visit with his grown girls at night. I will keep an eye on them, while they begin their journey to outside for stress, but I think they'll do fine. They look so big now, but I bet...
I have a separate coop that only has my Roo in it, but he can go back in with the hens. Maybe I can get an extra long extension cord for my heat source. I have a wall mounted one in the hen's coop, but they don't really need it. I'll have to see what I can do today, it's going to be 78... That's...
Ok, first time hatcher and chick mama. I last bought Pullets who were 8-10 weeks old and they could go right into the coop. I've tried my hand at hatching, which was very fulfilling and much fun! Now I have 4 2/12 week old chicks who are hellions. :) I had them in a puppy play yard, but they are...
I'm in Woodbine, GA. The far south east corner of the state. I was born in Columbus, GA, until moving all over the country. Settled back here, retire from Lockheed.
