Hoping to move the girls in this weekend - how did I do?

Thanks JT! Heard. It is a bit wider than it looks in the photos but I will still likely add a ramp. Moving them in tomorrow!

Hoping to move the girls in this weekend - how did I do?

Thanks. We’re in New England so I’m definitely concerned about drafts. My plan is that I can grab another 8ft length to close that gap in the winter months. Or two 4ft pieces that I can cover half as needed.

Hoping to move the girls in this weekend - how did I do?

I’m calling it “The Pullet Pallet Palace” (to myself, that is) I have 6 7 week olds that are rating to get off our porch. First time with chickens. I’ve made this all by myself out of 90% up cycled materials - the majority of the frame is pallets. The only things I’ve purchased are 6 2x4s...

    “Well ventilated” vs. drafty

Hi there! I’m almost done with my coop and am pretty proud of the build. It’s totally DIY and about 90% recycled materials from Craigslist or just from scrounging around. As such, it’s not what you would call plumb, or square. :P Any tips on identifying that sweet spot between “well...

Thoughts on feeding chicks scrambled eggs

Thanks folks! Didn’t mean to hijack the thread. :)

Thoughts on feeding chicks scrambled eggs

I feel like this is a dumb question but when you give them treats, like eggs etc., do you just add it to their feeder tray or do you put it in a separate bowl?

    MOVING CHICKS OUTSIDE

Thanks. I’m just nervous for them. They’ve done so well so far (these are my first chicks) and I don’t want to lose them all overnight because I rushed them outside!

    MOVING CHICKS OUTSIDE

Came here today to ask the same question. I think they’re feathered out? I took them outside for the first time today. Hoping to finish the coop by Friday. They’re getting too big, too dusty, and too stinky for inside!

    Picture of the sleeping girls

The last couple of days, since I gave them a larger brooder they’ve been snuggling in a line just at the edge of the heat lamp’s throw. It’s adorable.

First time with chickens - home from the feed store today!

Very cool! I like that idea. I dug up an old mattress box (one of those that ships rolled up) and it’s perfect. I used paper bags underneath the shavings so I can swap them out if it gets too bad.

Will construction noise be a problem?

Close enough that they will hear every stroke of the hammer or cut from the saw. The work starts tomorrow so I’ll keep my eyes on them to see if they’re constantly flinching. If necessary I can move them to another part of the house but where they are now is really perfect.

First time with chickens - home from the feed store today!

Thanks! This is next on my list. :) They seem to be getting along fine for now but I want them to have more space to explore. Did you put a tarp or anything down at the bottom of the cardboard boxes for easier cleanup? I’m worried the excrement will wreck the box quickly. (I’m using pine...

Will construction noise be a problem?

The back of our house will be under construction for the next couple of weeks. Our chicks are probably under 3 weeks old. We’ve had them home from the feed store for only four days. They’re doing great so far but I’m worried about the constant construction noise keeping them from sleeping...

First time with chickens - home from the feed store today!

Thanks for this. That’s really helpful. One of the Ameraucanas seems a little more sluggish than the other 5 but she made it through the night. Everyone did! I’ll keep an eye on her today and administer some sugar water if necessary. Overall they seem happy and curious. They’re eating and...
