Well, my hen died last night. It was very cold, maybe that was a factor. The mass on her face hadn't decreased in size. I think the illness was too far along for the meds to work. She's at peace now.
UPDATE: My sick hen is eating more, drinking more water, and seems to have more energy. However, the large mass on the side of her face caused by the Trich is not gone yet. Today is day 4 on the MediTrich pills. Since the infection was pretty serious by the time I found meds for her, will it...
I found a measuring cup that has tenths of liters and mL on it, so I'll mix up the solution. I also have a syringe with tenths of mLs. Can't believe I have the needed tools...
I've been giving the hen a little of the med just guessing at the amount, but I'm sure the dose was way too low. The...
Update:
USPS delivered the meds to the wrong address, so I'm still waiting. Chicken has had no meds yet.
Today I bought a medicine at an aquarium/fish store. It's called Metroplex. It's 70% metronizadal & 30% excipients. What are excipients?
Do you think this will be safe for my hen? I'm pretty...
I'm about to treat one hen with a severe canker (I ordered Meditrich). I'll get the copper sulfate for the other hens who look healthy. Question: I had 3 ducks living with the chickens, so should the ducks get the copper sulfate too? They seem healthy. I have now separated the ducks from the...
I think Trich/canker is my final guess at her illness.
Thanks for all the info! I'm going to look online for copper sulfate, berimax &/or thyme extract. Hopefully I can treat it in time.
Thank you for these photos!!
Now I'm thinking my hen has wet pox. Inside her beak is yellow junk like in this pox photo. I was able to scrape some off with a q-tip today.
Now I need to read up on pox treatment.
