Beak fungal infection

After pus removal

Earlier this year I lost my beloved old rooster to what I thought had been canker, pox, or a bacterial infection. I tried many drugs, and nothing made a difference. Each time I removed the pus it grew back larger until one day it grew over the entrance to his trachea and he suffocated.

I did a necropsy on him and found that under the source of pus was a large tumor. :(

I'm not saying your bird has cancer, but it's certainly a possibility.

Thank you for these photos!!
Now I'm thinking my hen has wet pox. Inside her beak is yellow junk like in this pox photo. I was able to scrape some off with a q-tip today.
Now I need to read up on pox treatment.

Have you had mosquitoes out lately, or seen any dry pox scabs on any combs, wattles, or faces? It is is usually very common in late summer and fall, and especially in the deep south. There is not much treatment that helps, since it is a virus, but Casportpony has a good thread about wet and dry pox, if you Google it.

I think Trich/canker is my final guess at her illness.
Thanks for all the info! I'm going to look online for copper sulfate, berimax &/or thyme extract. Hopefully I can treat it in time.

Those are fine as preventatives, but to treat canker you will need metronidazole, ronidazole, or dimetridazole.

Get the fish-zole that I linked earlier, that is what you need to treat it, not the things you listed here.
