Question for you experts.
I have 10 RIR and 10 Buff O's and 1 Oprah (a black crevacoeur that was found and given to us). Now all was good when I first put Oprah into the coop, she was the same size as the chicks and as they grew up she has held her own.
Well now the 2 main big roosters Red...
Don't get attched to them!!! They are sooo adorable when you get them, give them a couple of weeks though. They have the potential of being such a beautiful bird, but once they start pounding on the pounds all they doo is drink eat and poop, and I mean poop!!! They are worth the work though...
We just did ours as well.

We had it down to a T.
Hubby and neighbour would go catch and kill, then hubby would dip and pluck (we had a wicked plucker!!) Then the neighbour and I would gut and clean. We would do 10 at a time then bag and run to the freezers we would take a 10 minute beer break and go at'er again.

Well we finally got rid of the Cornish X's. It took 3 of us 5 hours to process 44 of the smelly buggers!!
I kept out one of the smaller hens for din-din tonight and just for fun weighed her and she was 8.4 dressed!!! I can't wait to weigh one of the big roostets as we have a lot of big boys!!
The hatchery we bought them from call them Cornish Giants.....I just call them ugly, disgusting, smelly chickens I think they are a cross though, with what I have no idea
That pic was taken the day they found her. Actually a really bad pic as it's caked on mud, they are clean now and I trimmed up her nails so they look WAY better than they were!!!
Well the time has finally com and we are doing the deed this weekend YEAH!!!
There will be 3 of us, hubby killing and plucking and me and the neighbour cleaning and packaging.
Hubby thinks I being a goof because I said there will be a pot for the gizzards and one for the heart & livers. I...
Well Stanette has been renamed....she is now "Oprah" thanks to a freind of my husband.
I felt bad having her by herself so I managed to wait 2 weeks. I figured she wasn't sick so we should be good to go.
I took her out to our 10 RIR and 10 buff O's and put her in the copp thinking to myself...
Well Stanette is safe and sound in a kennel that I had set up for when I had a rabbit. So she is off the ground and sheltered. She ate like a pig once I put in the chicken food. I will let her get used to us before I try to attempt to do her nails. I will try to wait a month before I put her...

Yeah Manitoba Canada is a little far from Arkansas!!! Yes I do have a large dog kennel and that what I was thinking of putting her in for now, it's just WHERE to put the kennel. We don't have a basement and I doubt hubby wants her in the house (he may have to suck it up though)
My boxes are about 3 feet off. She will get off and eat and drink then go back to sit. Once babies were hatched I moved them all to the floor of the coop with food and water with a box separating them from the others. Mine were fine and the other hens never bothered them
I left my broody hens. Funny thing was is that another hen would squeeze her butt in the box and lay and egg as well, the broody hen sat on all of them. Finally I marked the ones she had been sitting on for a while then I could still take out the "new" eggs
Well Stan is actually a Stanette. The little bugger shat out an egg when I was going to take her pic for you guys to see.
Needless to say the office is in an uproar right now...What do you do with that egg? EAT IT!!!!
Anyway here are some pics of her. Let me know what you think she is as...
