They need 12 hrs of light for best laying results, I use garden low watt floresents set on a timer, 12 on 12 off. Without the proper light they will cut down or even stop laying. you can get all this at local hardware store or lowes ,homedepot. spend the extra money for the garden or sunshine...
Racoon or fox would be my guess, coons have thumbs and can move or even unlock latches. Bait a trap and shoot it, it will be back now that it has found food.
good luck
We sit in the swing and watch the birds almost every night in the summer/fall. very relaxing and they do some very funny things. I got them for the bugs in the yard but kept them for the way they relax everybody, even the kids. They have taught my kids and myself about life and death, fresh...
If the less peaceful (for you) routes turn your stomach then you are definitely NOT the person to do the job because you would fumble it and make it worse for you AND your hen. If you can't afford a vet then you need to find someone who can do the right thing with skill.
very good advice
My birds yell like crazy after laying, HEY LOOK AT WHAT I DID !!! If I don't go get the eggs at that moment my buff will keep yelling. very funny to see/hear.
check poop for worms, blood, watery (more then usaual) sounds gross but you can tell alot from their poop. if all that is normal i would guess he has
broken a bone. bone marrow in the blood will make him very ill. same in humans. feel leg from top to bottom. does he try to pull back at any...
She is probley not getting everything she needs , due to lack of ability to find food 100% of the time,or the stress of it through no fault of your own. Imagine if you only found food 2 of the 3 times you were looking for it, you would lose weight as well. I suggest adding some vitamin water to...
very important to watch for infection. As long as he can eat I agree to wait and see what happens. DO NOT USE GLUE. this will cause infection at the worst or hinder regrowth at best.
I would guess he is just trying to be king of the hill, he should calm down soon. If he is causing wounds ,I would put him in the meat locker.
I also had a barred rock roo and he was very aggresive toward the ladies untill about 6 months of age. He was great with beans and rice. good luck
sorry to hear about your buff , here is my guess
racoons will reach through the fence, and they like the head. Now that they have found a meal they/it will be back. trap it or shoot it, have had this happen to my flock before. good luck
