If it is a juvenile bird, as we said, it wouldnt necessarily have the cheek puffs and such yet. May still grow into them. Also depends upon the hatchery it came from. I have catalogues from 3 different ones and they all look a little different for the breed in the photos.
Probably should go with geese or ducks then. Its an old dog house on ground level converted into a coop but could be put on 4x4 legs too. I had considered making it the brooder as well. It will easily house 4 standard chickens. Thanks for the info!
Possibly someone who needs a rooster would trade one for a hen. Or someone might buy them for the freezer. But you're right, i wasn't thinking along your lines. What you said makes sense.
Im starting to become a crazy chicken lady myself. I have 16 in a big coop with a nice run right now. I also have a smaller eclosed coop and run that i am contemplating what to do with. Should i start a flock of bantums? Maybe get a few ducks? My husband suggests geese or guineas to " watch dog"...
Looks like a roo to me. Im going by the look of the comb as well as the longer more pointed neck, tail, and back feathers. Hens feathers will be more rounded.
Thanks! Ive bern reading everything i can get my hands on about chickens. They are so fun and therapeutic to watch. My husband is even getting over his childhood fear of them and likes to let them out in the mornings.
Hi! My name is Teresa Wolfe. I am a new grandma and a new chicken owner! My daughter gave me a beautiful grandson May 3rd. My flock started with a year old Australorp hen that my son brought home from his dad's. "Henny Penny" as i call her is a super layer and quickly won both my heart as well...
