My silkie keeps her head tucked under her

A few days ago I noticed that one of my silkies is keeping her head tucked underneath her. I go and pet her and she just picks her head up and rolls it back under her repeatedly. If I pick her up and set her down then she'll walk around normally for a while...then goes back to tucking her...

    Wanted: Silkie hens in Massachusetts

I am looking for 2 silkies (no roosters) in Massachusetts. I'm open to different colors but I'd prefer splash, white or buff. I'm open to paying for shipping and open to prices.

    Strange Silkie death

I do remember a few days ago she didn't want to go inside when it was dark. She was kind of standing at the entrance in the dark. I had to push her inside. I'm also wondering if it might have been landscapers throwing down weed killer or something.

    Strange Silkie death

Today I went out to discover one of my white silkies dead in the nesting box. I have no idea why. No injuries. The past 2 days or so she hasn't been herself. When let out of the run she would just stand there instead of walking around doing chicken stuff. Another silkie of mine is showing...

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

Carolyn252, where did you get your clear roofing? I think I will end up needing that. Today I used my wet-dry vac and tried to get absolutely everything off the floor of the coop. I then wiped down with a natural disinfectant in the hopes of removing any mold. I removed 3 pieces of wood that I...

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

Quote: Bleach. Ok I'll try that. The roof of the coop has about a 1/2" gap between the walls. Also, there are several windows in there that are open 100% of the time. I just put a screen on one of them. It's 12" x 12" above the feeder and 6"x6" on the adjacent wall. I may still need more...

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

Quote: It's really really heavy. I contemplated lifting the front up so the entire thing would be slightly angled to allow water to run off in a certain direction but realized it would just bend the coop to a bowl shape over time. Currently it sits on concrete blocks which are elevated from...

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

The coop floor has been bare for a few days now so i can monitor water coming in and out. For the most part the work I've done has prevented most of the water from entering. During hard storming that I've been having the past few days only a tiny bit of water has made it in. Unfortunately some...

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

So I removed all of the sand and cleaned out the floor of the coop. When I built it, I put a thick layer of silicone between the playhouse and the floor. It looks like it has failed. If I run a hose along the side of the playhouse it leaks inside pretty bad. I've created a skirt with garage...

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

The coop doesn't show it in the pics but I put hinged windows in there. I'm going to remove some of the sand and see if it dries up. Maybe I layered it too thick (4 inches)

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

The roof has about 1/2 inch of space all around the coop which I assumed was enough ventilation There are 3 lexan windows (all sealed) pictured here. There is a 2x2 foot overhang over the front door now (not in pictures) but no sides to it. I am considering adding sides.

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

It could be rain from the coop door. That is the only door that is not sealed. There is no condensation on the walls at all. I sealed the bottom of the coop (board to the plastic walls) I sealed the windows (clear plastic) Maybe I will put a fan in there tomorrow. I think it needs a big revamp.

Serious mold problem with Playhouse coop and sand

I built my playhouse coop out of a little tykes playhouse. I put a wood floor on it and did my best to seal all windows etc. I've been using pine shavings about 4-5 inches thick and after a while the bottom gets very wet. Last week I switched to sand to see what it would be like. I'm not sure...

Is an Automatic Chicken Door Worth $225

I have an automatic door opener that I bought from Discount Home Automation. It was about 89 bucks shipped. I went away for a week and had a friend take care of the girls. When I came back the motor was no longer functioning and I couldn't figure out why. It lasted from October 2010 until June...
