    Are they all roosters?!

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised. They were advertised as "partridge leghorns" and came with all those chubby brown hens, but TSC also sold me three Cayuga ducklings as swedish blues, so it's kind of a toss of the dice as to what breeds you really get. I don't know exactly what colour shells...

Do you have a way to "call" your flock to you?

"Heeere chickin', heeeeey chickin', get yer dinner, chickin'" done in much the same cadence as a pig call, though if I'm being honest, just the sound of my voice will bring them running nine times out of ten. The ducks are way more fun. My youngest (10) nicknamed them the business ducks...

    Are they all roosters?!

Yes. Cluckingsworth has a great comb, see above. 😁 This is an old thread, someone wanted to see my hens now that they're all grown.

    Are they all roosters?!

They were all pullets. 😊 This post is a little old, from when they were juveniles last summer. They're all floofy, fat hens now. I ended up getting a rooster from a friend, and he's derptastic. Brutus the Barber Drumstick, or Bru for short.

    Are they all roosters?!

Cluckingsworth and her flockmate Not Cluckingsworth ended up being massive, up there in size with my jerseys and brahmas, a lot bigger than the other leghorns. They were all pullets, and I lucked out on the dumbest, sweetest rooster from a friend with too many. Not Cluckingsworth:

Lost my Boots on NYE. Feeling as low as it goes.

Thank you. :hugs I just can't believe I didn't notice. I found canid tracks near the back of my barn (where the winter coop is) and the back acre of my property while looking for her, looks like fox or a small dog from the size. I won't be letting them out of the run again, I'm just going to...

Lost my Boots on NYE. Feeling as low as it goes.

I was really swamped trying to get the fam's last minute additions for NYE, store here, store there, rushing to get home. It was dark, got all the ducks back into the winter coop (I thought), they're not used to it, I thought the weird, skittish reaction was because it was their first time...

help! female duck went from being all brown to changing color completely!

He is a little thick and fluffy looking for a mallard. 😁 Someone else will definitely know his breed better than me.

help! female duck went from being all brown to changing color completely!

Did you get him as a juvenile or a young adult? Eclipse plumage looks like female feathers on drakes, they lose their breeding colours (the green head and white ring, etc) for a while after breeding season... Seems someone may have slipped you a drake disingenuously, passing him off as female...

"Rosie" is a Ross, you see the curl on his tail? That's a sex feather, only the drake's tails do that, he's a pretty drake mallard though.

    Brutus the Barber Drumstick

I believe he's about a year old, maybe a month or two under. My flock consists of 32 laying hens (mostly partridge leghorns, with a smattering of impulse weird chickens) and he's my only rooster, I'm really impressed with him so far.

    Brutus the Barber Drumstick

Brutus is getting along quite nicely, some of my hens are downright smitten with him and follow him all around. He's really fond of my light brahma who's tepid about him lol, but oh my gosh, I've gotten to witness the rooster shuffle dance many times now and I have to say, it's the silliest...

    Brutus the Barber Drumstick

Thank you! It's funny, the kids are usually the namers of birds here, and I told them all not to name him incase he needed to get a dinner invite.. and I ended up naming him anyway. Fingers crossed, I'm hoping with two acres to free-range everyone can get out of the thick of it if need be.

    Brutus the Barber Drumstick

So far, so good. I managed not to get a single Roo in all our chick purchases from TSC (not so lucky with the ducks, two Pekin drakes 😬) But my ladies started squatting for me (I panicked lol, I thought my girl was sick or something the first time one did it) and laying eggs, and I'd hoped for...
