Comment by 'UPCluck' in article 'Michigan Right To Farm Act Act 93 Of 1981'

My township says in the ordinance... "When Michigan right to farm act doesn't apply, then...". No roosters. When would Michigan right to farm act not apply? If anything I guess I would say my roosters are grazing animals...which are allowed as per the ordinance. They eat grass all the time.

Does anyone have fall and Christmas recipes that contains eggs?😊

Egg noodles!!! 2 cup flour, about teaspoon salt, about 4 eggs, about 2 tablespoons water...will make quite a few noodles for anything needing noodles.

Reporting owing a Rooster in violation of local ordinance.

If you can convince your neighbor to keep the rooster in the coop through out the night, maybe that would help. The sound would be muffled.

Deviled eggs! Boil eggs, cut in half lengthwise, remove yolk and set aside the whites. In a bowl mix yolks with mustard heaping teaspoon to mayonnaise heaping tablespoon for desired consistency, teaspoon vinegar, salt, pepper, very finely minced celery about a quarter stick, about teaspoon...

    butchered my first chicken today

I've done some heritage birds in the tractor and they would gang up on the weakest of the group about the time they are starting to mature, trying to mate with the weak one and taking turns until he dies. Found that reducing the number of birds in the tractor helped.

    Culling process...

I've tried the hatchet on the stump method and found that my aim wasn't all that good and the results were not as planned. Putting the chicken in a cone, or as I used an empty milk jug, and cutting the neck was much less stressful for both of us. If you have loppers to cut the head off clean...

    Processing for 1st time

Holding back the feed will ensure the crop is empty when you slaughter, makes it a little bit less messy. A little water will wash away any undigested food if you don't hold food back soon enough. I keep my butchered chickens in ice salt water overnight in a cooler before refrigeration, then a...

    Cooling and cleaning during processing

I chill mine in a bucket of ice water for a few minutes before plucking (after the hot soaking to get the feathers loosened up). Seems to firm up the skin to keep it from tearing.

How Many Have A Yardbird Plucker?

Did 45 roosters last fall with the yardbird plucker. Did alright. From catching the birds to butchered and in the cooler I was doing about 4 an hour...the thing that took the longest was getting the water hot again. Have to swish the bird around in hot water for about a minute and dunk into...

    Weasel problem

Rat trap inside a wood box like a shoebox. Have a hole for it to get in and a removable top. Place can of cat food or tuna on far end of box. Set trap so weasel must cross over to get food. Close top. Place by coop.
