Thanks everyone.
That's friggin unbelievable. I gave my broody hen 6 eggs from a farm nearby that has a rooster. All 6 were fertilized, all 6 hatched (on day 18....) and to have so many hens. That's amazing.
When I gave her the eggs, I figured 2 not fertile, 1 or 2 not making it and at least...
The white one definitely a roo, the other one in that first picture is an unrelated ,small, mature laying hen who snuck into the picture.. But yay! Hope you're right, because we can really only keep 1 roo and they're all so darn cute.
Bertus is obvious, I'm afraid Cleopatra might actually be Caesar.... but the rest???
They're 9 weeks old today. All have the same Rhode island red daddy, but different momma's!
8 weeks? Definitely roos. Every roo I've ever had, had a smaller, less red comb and wattles at that age. Non of my hens combs grew like that until they started laying.
And a sideways picture of the one who wouldn't pose. Cleopatra has pretty eyeliner and every chick with eyeliner I've ever had has been a hen. So I kinda figured ... Not sure though....
My favorite hen was broody and I gave her some eggs. Lo and behold on day 18 ALL 6 hatched. She's an amazing momma, but now that they babies are getting bigger I'm wondering how many roos I have.
I can truly only keep 1 roo max 😭
The white one (Bianca) is no doubt a roo, but the rest????
They...
We had 2 Cochin bantams earlier this year who around 4 weeks old had significant combs that were already coloring red. We had another 2 hatch about 4 weeks later and they only started getting bigger combs and more color in there around 7 weeks old. Since at 4 weeks they had nothing, I had good...
Me too, it seems like the place I got her from just wasn't as animal friendly as I'd hoped, so she really still needs to learn what it's like to be loved and get treats and have others to hang out with while being able to play.
Really depends on the breed. I had one where it was absolutely clear at 3 weeks, another one where I had (correct) suspicions at 2 weeks, but at 4 weeks started wondering if it wasn't a girlie after all to get my initial suspicions confirmed at 5 weeks. My bantam Cochins seems to grow a super...
The flock minus 1 who was hiding out somewhere else. And the previous group with 4 roos laying in the sun on my hardwood floor...)
I need to take some new pictures as the flock changed so much this last week, 2 new ones and 4 roos who left.
Thanks to some great advice in my post about one...
For the water I do want something safe for the littles. Don't want to end up drowning them while trying to keep them safe.
But yeah, doe feed I've got enough containers I could use.
