Hayduke, I am so sorry about your hen. At least the injuries are not in any vital areas - it sounds like anyway. My mother always said that if the lesion or laceration is not profusely bleeding, that air is very good for the healing process. I would think that if it's getting very dirty or...
Sweetie pie, I wish I had suggestions for you too. Like you, I have two fake eggs in my nesting boxes and the roosts are above the boxes. I guess I was lucky in that my girls just took to the boxes right away. I did tack up little curtains for privacy, perhaps that would help? Good luck...
Hahaha, thanks for the kind words! I thought I was being pretty dorky for naming them the way I did, but now I'm stoked that you folks like the names. Cheers!!!
Thanks Mrs. K. Your option is a little more down my alley. I would like to get comfortable with having hens first. I mean, I fell pretty comfortable now but would like a bit more experience under my belt. Plus, I realize that I would want to enlarge my chicken run if I were to add a new...

Wow, shows how much I know about roosters! With this information you kind people have provided, I think a rooster may be a nice addition. I'll have to keep my eyes open!
Hayduke, when selecting my new rooster, I'll make sure he's extra loud and thunderous!
Thanks so much for your...

Yes, we have predators coming out of our ears! Wouldn't a crowing rooster attract more predators?
There are lots of roosters out...
Hello everyone, I hope you're all enjoying the beginning of autumn as much as I am!
We have twelve magnificent chickens that are starting to lay. All twelve are ladies (well, they're all female anyway! ) and we're pretty sure that we scored on that one. The other day, my hubby pondered that...
