Great, thanks!
I do have an extra thermometer/hygrometer in there since this machine is very, very basic but I can't speak for its accuracy. The machine came with a thermometer that should reach a 100°F line. If I do this, the digital thermometer reads 40.5°C which seems too high... So, not so...
Beginner hopeful hatcher here!
I borrowed a machine from a friend and will try to incubate for the first time. Does it look too crammed in here?
I figured a little space might clear up if some eggs don't develop properly but in the case that all goes well, is this enough space?
Also, I'm a bit...
I would keep her separated for a bit and give her food and water and a comfy place to rest. She could instinctively be hiding injuries due to the shock of it all. It wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on her and give her some time to recover.
I have a flock of 12 laying hens and 5 pullets, 1 mature rooster and 4 cockerels.
The young ones are 20 weeks old and should soon start reaching maturity. I would like to keep all of the roosters since they free range most of the time but due to local ordinances, all chickens must be held...
Ooh those sound like fancy terms to me. Never heard of them before but I'll try to look for a little info. The Brahmas are the ones that made me most curious since I didn't see any that looked like them when I googled their breed.
So I guess its safe to say they are Opringtons! One is that dark gray bluish colour and of the powdery ones, only one has some black spots. The three of them have dark legs, no feathers. They're the fluffiest ladies I have ever seen!

Here are a few more pictures but I couldn't get super close, unfortunately. The ladies don't know me so well and get a little worried.
The barred hen is molting so she looks a bit scruffy. She has what I think is a small pea comb (as does the black and brown one...
Ah, good to know that he still has some learning to do and won't always be so sloppy!
He has a lot of ladies to chose from (20 to be exact) but only about 5 that are mature/laying. The others are of mixed ages and breeds. He does have his two favourite girls that let him mate without much...
It sounds like she's living the good life!
In the case of house chickens, I totally get how having just one works. Extra cuddles and pampering!
I just thought it was uncommon to start with only one. Maybe that could be the case when rescuing one I suppose.
My rooster just matured and is taking rounds mating all the ladies. My flock is very mixed in terms of ages, sizes and breeds and two of my girls are Ölandska dwarf hens. These were the first hens I even owned and they are about 2 years old but bitty little things. Now my rooster has become...
