Only other emu he has known was his sibling before he came home with me at 5 weeks old. He lived in my dining room until he was around 3 or 4 months old. So to him he is people. I figured there would be some pecking order going on and that that is normal, but the missing feathers is what is...
Trust me normally I keep thing seperate at first too. I'd had her in a sorta stall when I brought her home. She evidently came through a gap that I would't have thought a bird that size would of come through. Popo had his fall worming and is due for his spring about now. I'm not seeing any mites...
At first I thought the new emu was picking on Popo since he had a few spots were some feathers were missing, but I came out this morning and a quarter of the feathers on his back are gone. I think he plucked them and that he is unhappy and is over grooming. I'm going to get the new emu into a...
Also Popo is extrmly tame. This girl is not. I can get her to come close, but not touch. Trying to get her to be calmer about me.
Oh and I'm starting to worry that she is picking on Popo. Wanted to keep them seperate for awhile, but she managed to squeeze through the gate and get in with him...
Well I got a 1 yr old emu that the guy thinks is a female, so have to wait and see, for a friend for Popo. The two of them seem to be getting along well and I've got the new girl( at least I'm hoping) to come up and take bread from me. She is fairly skittish overall and has got Popo asking 'Why...
Emu dude- Popo was over it by the time the sun came back up. Came over to love on me.................................................................... and see if he couldn't convince me to sit down. Sad sad boy.
dnk-I'm in Cullman Alabama. Wish you were closer.
Update.
First I tried out a carrier on Popo to see just how hard it would be. Other than some offended dignity on his part it was easy and simple.
Second, when I called the lady again and told her the plan for getting the emu home I found out why no one has gotten the emu before now. I was...
If they fit in a dog crate, I _can_ borrow a van and she wouldn't be chilled. I didn't think that she would fit when a friend suggested it. I'm still looking, but the only horse trailer I could borrow has dry rotted tires and no way I'd trust them that far and I couldn't afford to buy the person...
I've found a 10 year old female from a petting zoo, but it's about a 4 hour trip. How in the world do you transport an emu? I really think a horse trailer would be too cold. Besides, finding one would be an issue. Suggestions?
The pen is about 100' x 100'. I've thought about getting another emu, but Popo is my baby got him at 4 weeks old and had him in my dining room for the longest because he got so upset about moving outside. Having a 4 month old emu crying in you lap is a sad sight. I've seen a few people talking...
He is in with geese and chickens. Also the turkey and gunies when they decide to jump the fence. I think it'll probably be a case of raising his fence then. Oh and he also likes to race cars down one side of the fence and if they stop to look at him he has to lean for a look back.
I only have the one emu that is just now turning 2 years old. I think Popo is a boy and he is in a fair sized pen, but he is rubbing his neck on the fence to the point I'm worried he is going to cause his feathers not to grow back. I know these guys are bad for pacing their fence, but is there...
I had a pair that were the cleanup crew in my aviary, but my female died and the male is very upset and needs a friend. It is turning out to be harder to find buttons. Any help is apreciated.
