    Flock raiser versus laying crumble

I would think if mareks, it should have shown up in one or both necropsies. I’m confident they didn’t get the wrong bird, descriptions were included. Also, my hatchery chicks were vaccinated, I know that’s not a guarantee. But I also keep a turkey for natural immunity. visceral Gout seems to be...

    Flock raiser versus laying crumble

By “young”, less than a year. Probably close to 8ish months. I had 6 die within a 3 month period. 2 of those were older silkies (These were some of my oldest birds, probably 6ish years), one a splash Maran, a super blue layer and Two olive egger-these last four were from a hatchery and my first...

    Flock raiser versus laying crumble

I only have adult birds. My concern is just that they aren’t all laying, and with the visceral gout issue I don’t want them getting too much calcium

    Flock raiser versus laying crumble

Hi all! so recently, I’ve had some young chickens die. Have been raising chickens for about 8 yrs, never had a problem. First necropsy showed nothing, but second showed visceral gout. All birds were very well appearing and no signs of illness prior to death. i did some research and switched them...

    Visceral gout

I have, yes! None of my girls had any signs. I was really surprised that they found anything bc they were young and healthy. I’m glad I have something to go on though!

    Visceral gout

Hi all! i posted awhile back regarding some unexplained deaths, younger birds. I had done one necropsy that showed nothing. Was worried about possible poisoning. at the time I posted I had just lost one of my favorite new girls. I opted to do another necropsy that showed visceral gout?? Did a...

Why do my birds keep dying???

I did think at one point that maybe my neighbors were poisoning rats and my chickens had secondary poisoning. But, I haven’t seen any bodies or evidence of that. Just not sure how else that might have happened

Why do my birds keep dying???

I’m in Sacramento, CA. Not too bad, never snows. Right now 60s in the day. Winters have never been an issue for me, I struggle more with the summers

Why do my birds keep dying???

Craig, from what I can find it doesn’t seem chickens are susceptible? Looks like they’ve only experimented with basically forced infection. I’ll keep digging.

Why do my birds keep dying???

Thanks for this!!! Will look into it. No signs, very sudden. But most were really young birds and probably compensated well as long as they could.

Why do my birds keep dying???

Yes, agree. Two of them passed on hotter days, maybe it was the heat?? I’ve NEVER had that happen before, I do my best to keep them comfortable. I’m thinking about another necropsy on the latest bird. I could see bad genetics if it were one breed, but I got 7. I’m completely stumped. At one...

Why do my birds keep dying???

Not an option. I have a cat and 4 dogs, 2 of which chase and occasionally catch rats.

Why do my birds keep dying???

It’s mostly the new birds that are dying. I got them from a hatchery. would a state lab be better than UC Davis? And how can I go about doing that?

Why do my birds keep dying???

That was my thought too. I can’t seem to get rid of them. No feed out at night, traps don’t work, the best luck we’ve had is my husbands pellet gun but that hardly puts a dent in the population. The bodies are flawless. I checked for everything. Even the necropsy on one showed nothing, I...
