Hello,
We noticed one of our hens limping a few days ago and when we picked her up, it was bumblefoot. We had dealt with bumblefoot a few days earlier with another hen so we knew what to do and brought her inside. After a 20 minute epsom salt soak, we got her into 'bumble removal position' and...
Sort of.. when I took her out of the nesting box to change her bandage this morning, I picked her up and placed her on the coop floor but she kinda remained sitting there. Maybe it was because she had been sitting for 12 hours but I don’t know 🤷🏼♀️
Hello,
I noticed some swelling in the right foot of one of our hens and quickly identified it as bumble foot (we have had a lot of rain recently and its pretty muddy). We treated it yesterday afternoon in our garage with a 25 minute epsom salt foot bath, then using tweezers to pull the scab/plug...
Hi,
2 of our hens (H and F, opposite ends of pecking order) are really close, and at night they always roost together. for a while I have noticed H putting her head under F's breast/stomach and wriggling around. It's pretty cute, but I was wondering if this is normal? Thanks!
Update: her feet are still bloody. I've been putting on vetericyn 1-2 times a day (she's scared of the bottle). sometimes the cut has opened up again, but its looking better. however, another chicken now has the same problem. the first chicken has also been looking kind of sick, just a paler...
She has been seeming weaker, though her behavior is mostly normal. She has been tucking her bad foot up to her stomach whenever she isn't pecking around, and sitting in the sun although she is eating and drinking fine. She laid an egg today as usual. It's not as raw as it was earlier, probably...
Thanks! I bought some on amazon today, it will be arriving tomorrow. For now, I'm slathering Neosporin on her cuts. they seemed to scab over last night but opened again this morning.
The thing is, I doubt she would get pecked because she is head hen. She is rarely pecked by the other 4, but it's possible. I was looking for sharp places, but I couldn't find traces of blood/anywhere where it would be possible for her to get the tops of her feet. Also what is vetericyn? How is...
Hello? She has been limping and hiding her foot to avoid pecks. I think it could be cracked from the cold-I may try vaseline. She is sitting alone right now.
One of our hens has bloody feet. her left foot is worse than the right, and I have no idea what happened, but she's acting normal. I was going to go out and attempt to clean it/put Neosporin on it, but I'm not really sure what to do. she is almost a year old, and we live in Massachusetts and...
We don't know what illness she had. One day she just didn't come off the roosting pole, and she was very lethargic with her eyes closed. We brought her inside and she stayed inside for 9 days, then we brought her outside and he has been perky and jubilant ever since. They have been in the new...
