For any of you that are interested, The Sussex County Farm and Horse Show starts this Friday August 1st and run through Sunday August 10th. Lots of farm animals and tons of Chickens!!!!!!! in the agricultural building. Also, geese...
Use an eye dropper to get some water into her. Just hold it by her beak and let it dribble in. Usually this will get them to open their beak and drink some. Good luck with her.

I'm so sorry to hear about yours and BJs loss. Only people who love chickens like we do could understand how you feel. My heart goes out to both of you.
Kim :aww
I'm with you Chickaroo. A pet is a pet and I would do for one of my chickens just as I would my dog or one of my horses. Some feel that chickens are disposable pets not worthy of a veterinary visit but I disagree. I wish you lived near me in New Jersey. I would hire you too!! Just built a new...
Hi,
Sounds like that was a close call. The panting is because she's a bit traumatized and stressed. You should put her in a crate or some other enclosure in a dark, quiet spot til she calms down. Also, you can give her some electrolytes. Gatorade would be fine. If she doesn't drink it on her own...
Hi Carla,
Sometimes the crop can be impacted with just twisted up grass and it won't feel hard. I had a hen a few weeks ago with the same thing. When you massage her crop smell her breathe and see if smells sour. If it does then she may have sour crop. Get some plain unflavored yogurt. Make...
Hi Jennifer,
I had a hen that walked the same way. I discovered it last year. I was looking after some friends chickens and noticed that one of them was acting strangely and hiding all the time. She would get under a bush or hide in a corner etc. After a few days I saw that she couldn't roost...
You are doing a great job with Scarlet. Don't give up on her. Hang in there. It'll be worth it to see her running around with the other chickens again. That sling is really imaginative. I'll have to keep that in mind if ever I need one. Keep up the good work and I'll keep my fingers crossed for...
Hi catchick,
I'm far from an expert on chickens but it sounds like they may have spraddle leg. Do a search for spraddle leg and you should find some information. It has something to do with cutting a band- aid in half length wise and taping their legs to straighten them out. Good luck.

Rebecca,
Thank you. I am fortunate to have found wonderful people like you on this website to help with your kind words and thoughts. It's extremely comforting to me. I know I did the right thing for her but my heart aches soooo much. My dog, however, is happy to have the whole back seat of my...
Jen,
Thank you for your kind words. I just came home from the farm and it hurts so much to leave there without putting her in my truck on the back seat on her pillow. The pillow is still there and it brings me to tears when I see it. I just can't take it out of the truck yet. When I arrived...
