    Yes, that does make sense. But in that case I still feel we need an explanation as to why the poor old animals were cursed with these pains when they're entirely innocent. It seems a bit sadistic.

    True, there are many things the bible doesn't mention. But in this case, the pain that women suffer during labour is a direct result of Eve's disobedience. I would have thought that it would follow from this that since the animals haven't been guilty of disobedience, there should be no reason...

    As far as I am aware, there isn't any explanation. I'd be interested to know what greenfamilyfarms, who originally said "I believe that animals don't experience the pain like a human female would" on the basis of genesis, has to say about this.
