We just hatched 3 Speckled Sussex chicks yesterday, and apparently one of them has a bad sore on the joint where the leg bends. Just noticed today the chick is having trouble putting weight on that leg, and it looks pretty infected. Been treating the leg with peroxide and neosporin, and have...
A hawk can lift a deer
Hate to be technical here, but that's a golden eagle...pretty sure that's no adult white tail deer either.
But yeah, hawks could eat chickens.
Thanks for the posts, I'm a bit more reassured now...was going to have to get rid of one of them if they were both roos. The larger one is really gentle as of now, so might be a good sign. Has never shown any aggression...though he looks pretty intimidating
Two pictures of what I think is a pullet and a roo, but not so sure of either. They were supposed to both be pullets, but I'm thinking the larger one is definitely a Roo. What do you guys think? Both are at least 15 weeks.
Pullet?
Roo?
Just had our first hatch on a LG, with forced air and turner. Had a 5/8 hatch ratio on Ebay eggs, so I'm fairly pleased with it. On the LG, we basically ran it dry until day 18. Hope to someday maybe own one of the Genesis type. They sound amazing. It seems from what all I've read, the...

Thanks all for the encouraging words The other Sussex chick is out and doing great...now it's a 2 vs. 2 match, Sussex vs. Hamburg and the Sussex team are steam rolling the Hamburgs, lol. Both Hamburg eggs are pipped, and i'm hoping to have 2 more chicks hatched by tomorrow if they don't get...
Thanks for the advice, 1st chick in the brooder, one of the 2 sussex I have has hatched shortly after I posted. That leaves the other sussex (pipped) and 2 more silver spangled hamburgs (one pipped and one moving around like crazy in the egg) If they all hatch, that will be 5/8 eggs...
I had my first Silver Spangled hamburg chick hatch this morning about 6 AM, and it is playing kickball with the remaining 4. I have a little giant, forced air incubator, so it's a rather large surface area for such a small number of eggs. They are really getting knocked around and pushed from...
