Do you guys think the different feathering is just some weird happening then?
There was me hoping it might be some early sign as I know brahmas are slow to mature, and I am eager to know - doh! Thanks for the input though, I will just have to wait and see ;)
I have four lemon Brahma I hatched last week and I've noticed two have longer wings and a tail. Am I right in these being hens? The two 'girls' also seem to be sprouting their shoulder feathers quicker.
Sorry for the crappy pictures, they were a little uncooperative!
Fred my lovely Norfolk black stag and Penelope my bourbon red hen pictured with her little baby she hatched a couple of years ago. Sadly Fred died not long after she hatched her babies but at least he lives on in them. I love having pet turkeys, nthey are such characters and Beatrice sits for me...
I have large fowl and bantams living happily together. As long as they have enough space they should be OK. I second the only putting adults bantams in, younger ones are easily picked on.
It should be OK. What kind of eggs are they? As some bantams eg Pekins can be a little early. Once they have pipped it can take them some time to progress so don't worry just yet.
I'm a candling addict too, I have candled as early as day 3 or 4! I must resist though!I'm just too eager to know if there is anything going on in there.
No they don't smell at all. There is a alight smell of the veg if you get right in there but the actual worms and beetles don't smell. Also the beetles can't get any grip on the aide of the plastic so they can't climb out - which is good!! Putting the worms in the fridge slows don't their...
Thank you for your comment! I have previously used a brinsea mini eco but you can't fit many eggs in there and it gets to be a pain turning the eggs, hence the upgrade. I will follow your advice in regards to the humidity and leaving the eggs alone. At least with an automatic turner I will be...
My set up is very basic, I have a plastic storage container with ventilation holes drilled in the lid sat on top of the boiler ( as they need a relatively warm spot). I use wheat bran and milk powder as the substrate and then put in carrots or broccoli for food and moisture. I am at the stage...
That's OK! It must have been a hard thing to do but good on your for doing it! They should be very tasty ( or so says my brother in law)!
Most of my cockerels have names - my boyfriend despairs hehehe!
You will have to do a stakeout and see where the girls go! I had one hen who got out of her...
Sorry if I offended you I didn't mean to! I am vegetarian so I wouldn't be eating mine, but I have had these boys for a while now so i am very attched. They are strategically placed with hens in four different runs, I find that a LF cock and a bantam cock will get on with each other OK as long as...
Hello new member here :) from Oxfordshire! I have a selection of chickens, ducks, quail and turkeys. Got my first batch of eggs in the incubator, so exciting!
Edited to add: @rebrascora I am currently at 10 cockerels but don't have it in me to 'off' them as I am too attached!
My runner ducks I...
Hi, i was wondering whether my eggs will be ok being incubated at 37.7°c? I have only ever hatched at 37.5°c. I currently have 14 chicken eggs in there set wednesday. Im a little hesitant to mess with the temp as its my first time using my Brinsea eco 20 with auto turn! :/ do you think i should...
