What is the recommended sq footage per call duck in a crate? We have coyote, raccoon, and possum problems so all birds are kept in crates 24/7 in a barn. What is the minimum sq footage per call duck in a crate if they are being kept there 24/7? The crates are 3' x 4' and are 4' high as well.

This is more of a hypothetical question...since I do not plan on fencing in my birds with 3x3 wire fence. However I am getting about an acre and a half fenced in with 3x3 woven wire for goats and was wondering if down the road chickens could go in there. I would think that 3x3 could contain them...
I've never had a problem with any of my reds going broody, but I guess I haven't had them too long. But this is the second spring I haven't noticed them going broody. My ameraucana on the other hand always go broody. And they look awful when they come out of the box(which is rare).
Is broodiness even a trait that you would want to keep in your flock? Sure, it is easier and more effective to hatch eggs under your own birds, but it causes decreased laying and they go off feed and just sit in the box....not really part of my agenda if you ask me. I would just buy some other...
When my chicks are cheeping, there is a faint, yet very noticeable popping/cracking noise in their chest. I have no idea what it could be. My other chicks had this then they outgrew it. What could this be? Any suggestions?
'Heritage' is just a concept. It means the bird fits various qualities, such as reproduces naturally, long lifespan, slow growth, etc. Not necessarily that they are good quality birds that fit the standard.
If you are asking for critiques, I can say they look nothing close to what a good red...
