Great deal on Hardware Cloth wire!

That's why the young girls don't have access till they are bigger. The 1x1 does concern me about snakes and rodents. But no snakes in the area and if it does become a problem I can run a skirt around with smaller holes. Have a bunch of barn cats and they keep the snakes and rodents down to a...

Big shout out for the Cat Claw fasteners! They work awesome and are so much easier than staples.

Great deal on Hardware Cloth wire!

Hey fellow chickers, Found an amazing deal on hardware cloth wire. 6' tall x 100' long roll, 19ga and 1"x1". Price is $115.00 which is a steal in my opinion. No relation or connection to this company, but I just ordered a roll and they also offer free shipping...

    Electric fence/netting source?

Black or Grizzly? I don't know of a netting fence that would deter either. Even wired might not stop a hungry Grizzly. I have farming relatives just outside of Yellowstone and they use high voltage electric fencing to protect young herds and that doesn't stop Grizzly's about 25% of the time.

    New Chicken Coop placement questions

Aart, Yes, it worked great before so no reason to change the clean up method. I raked out the dirt and added about 100# of sand to help with drainage. Appreciate the input!

    New Chicken Coop placement questions

SWW facing, so some sunshine, but nothing direct. The temp run which will be electrified, will have direct access to sun and grass.

    New Chicken Coop placement questions

Thanks for the POP Fly trap recommendation. Will 100% get a few of those and posted away from the coop. The last group of chix I had, I used the poop boards and PDZ method. Worked great and I didn't notice too much of an odor. I am right at 6' so some slight stooping when cleaning and feeding...

    New Chicken Coop placement questions

100% the coop will have a roof as the deck does have gaps where the rain water runs through. Making sense to also roof the run part for noise/smell and keeping the run dry in the rain. Thanks for your input!

    New Chicken Coop placement questions

Thank you for the detailed reply! No local ordinances to worry about. I have checked county and they saw nothing wrong with it. Right around 18 is where I'd like to be. Hope all 18 make it to adulthood, but realty says otherwise. My last group of birds (back in TX) I used the deep litter...

    New Chicken Coop placement questions

Recently moved to Oregon and have chicks on the way in 4 weeks. So I gotta get moving on the new coop. I am seriously considering putting the coop and run below my outdoor deck below the front door. The space is all just dirt floor currently and some excellent beams I can attach the coop to. I...

    Auto Chicken Coop Door

Not JT, but I can answer the Cat5 question. The progression on Network cables recently goes - Cat5 -> Cat5E - > Cat6 to finally the new speed & distance standard is Cat6A. Cat5 is about 30% less expensive than Cat6 and 60% less expensive than Cat6A. The decided factors are: Are you running...

    Auto Chicken Coop Door

You must have a CNC machine or maybe a 3D printer if you're doing DXF to G. Very jealous :) And it takes a LOT of motivation to learn C++ - it can be such a tedious code. Powerful, but boring also! I am planning on an auto door. Going to jerry rig something from a small motor. No way I'm...

    Auto Chicken Coop Door

Hey JT, This is great stuff. I am an EE and a lot more experienced with C++ and Python, but will be using your code as soon as my coop gets built. Just finished painting the framework this morning. BIG thanks for the info and once I get caught up I will gladly see if I can help out with some...
