    Thanks for the reply! Luckily I will know if she lays tomorrow, because since she is a Cuckoo Maran, she is my only dark chocolate brown egg layer. Her eggs stand out! The shapes have been weird. I will try to upload some pix!

    Hi My 18 month old Cuckoo Maran who has been laying pretty hefty and occasionally odd-shaped eggs lately (long skinny oblong ones, or huge ones that look like double yolkers, but aren't).     Hen laid egg yolk then broken shell—advice please

    Why did NO ONE respond to this?!?!? I am assuming she became "egg bound", when an egg breaks inside of a hen. Apparently it is deadly if she is unable to pass all of the broken pieces of the egg safely. Here is a link with info on what to do in the case a hen does became egg bound...

    Thanks for the update! I have a New Hampshire Red who is just over ten months and has never laid. I keep a close watch on my two hens and two pullets, and their nesting box, so I know who lays and when. She is at the bottom of the pecking order and she had a traumatic event of getting tied up...
