    At what age does a chick become a pullet?

    I just bought 6 pullets today and they're my first! They're beginning to get a little reddish-brown color on them. They're little balls of fluff with the beginnings of feathers on their little wings and are about as big as a teacup. How old would you say they are?

    Just joined this site and haven't started yet. Still trying to figure out if there are ordinances against it in my small town. I'm in SC so it's very hot here in the summer but can also be very cold here in the winter. Is it too late in the year to start raising chickens?
