Oh good! Glad you like it. I was thinking about windows above the nests, plexiglass ones with wire behind them that can flip up and attach with a chain to the roof overhang for summer. It might make my coop look like it's batting its eyes but whatever. The floor is done, just cluttered up with...
Wow Folly, what a coop! I wish I had this much room. Your flock looks very happy. Thanks for the clarification on the sheeting, that makes total sense!
Hello all, I wanted to run this roofing and framing strategy by you-it’s a 3.5x7.5’ coop. I’ve built the walls and the base/floor and I made a roof today. The roof is 8 feet long, 45 in wide. I added some cross-bracing just in case. The roof is plywood wrapped in tar paper, then drip edge on...
My chickens have been loving pecking at the foam blocks I’ve got in my crawl space vents for winter, little monsters. The plan was to sandwich it between the OSB inner wall and the plywood siding to keep it out of reach. Do you think if I put it between the roof supports they’d jump for it?
Oooo really good idea! Tell me more about the clear plastic? Do you recall where you got it or what it’s original purpose was so I can look in the right area of the hardware store?
Caveman, you’re speaking my language! The top section that provides the roof slope (I’m calling it a “riser”) will be wire as well, hardware cloth for sure. I’ve got a good secure auto coop door and an outdoor dog so the girls are nice and safe, but hardware cloth is definitely on my mind...

My first brahma chick is in a brooder in a spare room and I must say she's got to be the biggest cutest fattest chick I've ever had. Her Easter egger roomie is teeny in comparison. She's a hunk and so calm. Named her Hodor...
Hello all, I've got a baby brahma in my brooder-my first! I've got a sturdy 2x4 roost in the coop, and also one out in the run to get the girls off the ground when they want to be. Here's my question: would a 2 foot high roost be too tall for a big brahma to hop onto?? I'm having trouble...
My olive egger is a Marans/Ameraucana mix from mypetchicken. She is a cruddy winter layer and she makes more noise than the rest of my flock put together. Her sister is the same. It's not all that fair to rate "olive eggers" since different mixes will have different traits but this is just my...
This guy needs a home! He's a black copper Marans. This pic is a little old, his colored feathers are coming in nicely now. I bought him straight run from Simmons in tri cities. He was hatched from an egg sent directly from Little Peddler so he's got great dark layer genes. He's a beaut! Anyone...
