    my chickens wont start laying!!

Do they ever free-range? My RIR found a out of the way spot to claim as her nest. When I found it there were 7 eggs in it.. and I didn't even know she was laying.

    Raising chickens in Porter, TX

Porter is an unincorporated area in Montgomery County. I couldn't find the answer either, but I did find a fellow Backyard chicken member (patchofheaven) who resides in Montgomery County, maybe he/she can help answer this for you. Good luck https://www.backyardchickens.com/u/3152/patchofheaven

    Hawk stole 3 chicks?

I'm not going to say the dog DIDN'T do it, but I cannot understand how there was not a trace of the chicks left behind. She had an hour to completely devour them, bones, feathers, & blood? I guess that's the most puzzling part.. the chicks just disappeared!! I watched her closely afterward to...

    Hawk stole 3 chicks?

Well, I don't think it could have been a snake.. I live in the city and have only seen a couple of snakes in the 18+ years I've been here and they were pretty small. Or rats. Thanks for the suggestions but I don't think so. The only thing that makes sense to me is a bird of prey. I did watch a...

    Hawk stole 3 chicks?

Ok, so I had 3 chicks almost 4 weeks old. I was outside working on the coop, went inside for an hour to start dinner, went back outside to secure coop for the night, and all 3 chicks are gone. Not a feather, not a drop of blood, nothing. I'm guessing a hawk squeezed through a small hole (I just...

Taking the grandkids to pick out some chicks tomorrow. Eggcited!

Ah yes, the boys live with us so they've been my partners in crime through the whole thing. We're doing this as a family project so they'll be naming the little fluff balls for sure. Last I heard "Karl Jr" was one of the names. I said "that's ok with me, but they're all girls" ha ha We only have...

Taking the grandkids to pick out some chicks tomorrow. Eggcited!

We have our brooder box ready and it's passed a trial run. The coop is almost finished and already we have plans and materials for a second coop. Yes, it's safe to say the chicken bug has bitten here in League City, Texas! Wish us luck!
