We have given our broody hen 4 fertilized eggs to sit on. She is sitting in a nesting box about 4 feet off the ground that is on a ledge with a ramp to the floor.
What happens when / if the eggs hatch? Can they get down on their own or do we move them to a nesting box on the floor? If we need...
Thanks for replying.
As for it being better that is what I am trying to find out. In another group I belong to there is a discussion about it and they said that:
". . . the issue is just that corn and soy are more likely to be GMO contaminated (despite the organic labeling)."

$27.25 for 50# no tax and delivery is free for orders over $50.00 to a drop point.
A few dollars more than I usually pay for organic but I have to drive quite a way to get it so it would be worth it to have it deliveried
I am considering ordering some Cascade Layer Poultry Feed, Organic it is corn and wheat free and contains fish meal & crab meal. I was wondering if anyone has used this feed and if they liked it. Also would like to know if it effects the taste of the eggs.
Here is the complete information...
Yikes I have one that looks just like that. Please don't tell me she is a he! She is just over 19 weeks.
She has always looked different than the others but we just assumed she would catch up. She is the only one that still has a droopy tail. (what does that mean?)
She kind of marches to her...
We are looking at ordering one of these and had a couple of questions.
We live in Arizona and are concerned about the sumer heat. We have 4 chickens, what size should we get, the 2 pint (2500) or the 1 1/2 qt (2550)?
Also should we get the Bowl Guard for Poultry Fount to keep the water...
We have four eight week old chicks. For the last couple of weeks we have been letting them outside all day and then bringing them in at night.
We just finished there tractor type coop and was going to have them sleep outside tonight. After dark they were huddled on the ground by the door...

I can't believe they can lay at 5 months. There must be a lot of big changes coming fast.
We are building an A frame tractor type coop.
Since it is narrow at the top we wanted to know what is the least amount of clearence between the wall and the roost that we can get away with and that will still allow the chickens to get up there.
If we need to put it off center how close to the...
Thanks for the quick replies.
So what is the best width for the perch 2" or 4". Maybe since there isn't a floor up high we should go with 4"?
I am in Arizona so cold toes shouldn't be much of a problem.
8" to 10" per bird correct? Should we go for 10" because of the heat here?
We are building an A frame portible run / roost for our 4 chicks. They will be 8 weeks old when we put them in.
The part with the roost will be 4' high and the roost will be about 2 - 2 1/2' from the ground. We are new to chickens so don't know what to expect. Right now in the brooder they...
