Personally, I just prefer referring to Ainsley in that way. Yes, they were born female, but as they developed male characteristics and stopped laying, in my eyes I now don’t see them as a “female” duck, nor really “male”. It’s just “Ainsley” to me 🥰
Ainsley was about 2 years old when they started their moult (growing male feathers etc), so I wouldn’t consider that particularly old! But I do not think they had any infections or tumours causing this, as they are perfectly healthy and happy! 😁 I do keep a close eye on them just in case...
my transgender duck attacks any wild ducks that try to get in the pen with them, so it’s quite unlikely that a wild one would have mates with the females. Although, it does seem like that could be the case 😬
one of my female ducks went broody a few weeks ago, and I could not manage to get her off her eggs ; today I had a look at her nest to try and kick her off again, but I noticed one of the eggs was cracked. I candled it, and there is a lot of dark shadowing and a large air sack, which is the same...
unfortunately he passed away on Sunday. I don’t think he was ever really “normal” ( not formed properly) as he was always quite different from the others. He was very loved though, and he’s missed a lot 😢💔
It sleeps inside the house under the heat lamp ; it only went outside because it was sunny and warm. I think it has hurt it’s leg and that’s why it’s so lethargic. I’m hoping it perks up in the morning
The ducklings go outside when it’s warm and sunny, but they do live in the house under the heat lamp. Ideally I don’t want to go to the vet because of the corona virus as we have an extremely vaunt able person in the family :( I’m going to try some electrolyte water and keep him warm as he’s...
I have just started to feed them growers pellets - they were on non medicated chick crumb. He’s always been a bit different to the others. He looks more like a kiwi than a duck. I’ll attach a photo of him
I have a 3 week old ducking who is not right at all. This morning I noticed it couldn’t walk, and was crawling around ; I bought it inside and it’s breathing sounds like a paper bag is crumpling inside it (rattling almost). It is still eating and drinking, but it is constantly chirping and...
