    Sick hen - overnight

Good morning all, Thanks for your help yesterday. Our girl is eating and drinking on her own this morning, and her eyelids are normal and we will intergrate her back in later.

    Sick hen - overnight

Thanks, I have some sunflower seeds in her crate and just "force fed" her some scrambled egg and more water. Still no improvement though.

    Sick hen - overnight

Hello everyone We have 6 hens. The youngest one has gotten sick suddenly. Last evening I noticed that she didn't come forward at feeding time, just sat at the back of the coop. This morning she is sitting there, head drooping and her bottom eyelid is up. I am not sure what to do....

    Adding two new chickens

Good morning everyone from South Africa. We have had 4 chickens since June 2008. They are wonderful and have done us well with eggs and comanionship. They have a large coop and free range daily for about and hour. We have dogs that would like to eat them so we cannot leave them out all the...

    Sore red leg...broody hen

My hen has been sitting on eggs for about 2 weeks (we have no rooster so take the eggs in the evening) but today she wanted out of the coop. She could barely walk on her one leg and on examining it I saw it is read and swollen in places. I have no farm vets around her as we are urbanites...I...

    Really mean chickens

Thanks for the replies. I wish I had space for more than this additional one but 4 is our capacity. We are watching that she is not being hurt and making sure she gets ample food. We will watch how things develop and if it doesn't work we will give her back.

    Really mean chickens

:(We have had to introduce a new hen to our coup. We had 4 then we gave the one very broody one back and 2 days later got a replacement. Said replacement is having a hard time...my other three ladies are being really mean and won't let her move from the corner. Everytime she does they peck her...

    "Coughing" chicken

Hi She is drinking and eating so something stuck would surely move down. They have a sand floor (we only have 4) and they scratch it up. We rake it morning and evening - probably overkill but it keeps it clean and we take the poop for our compost heap. She is fine out of the coup, but when in...

    "Coughing" chicken

I can only describe it as "coughing" but not sure that's right to describe her. She hasn't laid an egg it seems for two days and is pretty much keeping to a corner of the coup every now and again making this little coughing sound. When we let her and the others out she scratches around and...

One of my girls is sick

Thank you all for your help. I will try all your recommendations...and yes we have had a patch of very hot days (weird for winter!) but they do have shade and we are always checking water. I will offer her some egg and I have just made a batch of yoghurt!

One of my girls is sick

Hi I have her seperated. Her comb color is bright pink/red like the other chickens. She is still drinking water and I have no idea when she last laid...we got 2 yesterday and 2 today so I figure it may have been hers yesterday. Thanks!

One of my girls is sick

Hi We give them any veggie offcuts, not citrus though. We crush up their own shells very fine and give it to them. We feed them 1 cup mix of chicken feed with laying pellets everyday. We give them grass and clovers. My son gives them some snails round lunch time. When they are out the coup...
